Members connue to enjoy a varied programme with our<br />
meeng in May hearing from Mike Ward about his life in<br />
Zimbabwe from 1965 to 2012. Mike spent 48 years working<br />
there making maps and eventually became the owner of a company. He explained how<br />
excing and carefree life was inially and then the changes and deterioraon of<br />
lifestyle under President Mugabe’s rule. He eventually sold the business and became a<br />
Presbyterian Elder before returning to the UK and living in Wesield.<br />
Our June meeng was a fun aernoon starng with a quiz followed by a delicious<br />
strawberry tea.<br />
In July we were joined by Gary Enstone who oversees Bateman’s and Bodiam Castle.<br />
He gave an interesng and very amusing talk about a ten day trip in a skiff along the<br />
Thames taken by him, his brother and a friend. They were re enacng the trip taken in<br />
Jerome K. Jerome’s book Three Men in a Boat. The trip was taken to raise money to<br />
build a copy of a small boat Kipling had made<br />
to be sailed on the pond at Bateman’s. Also<br />
in July members enjoyed a day out to<br />
Walmer Castle and in <strong>August</strong> we are looking<br />
forward to our summer meal.<br />
Our monthly meengs are held in the<br />
Parish Hall on 2 nd Friday of each month at<br />
2.15pm. As well as monthly meengs<br />
acvies include book and cra clubs.<br />
