Day 1: Vancouver - Kamloops Rocky Mountaineer
Imagine being able to scale the sides of mountains
or weave alongside steep canyons - all without
having to worry if you brought the right shoes.
Look no further than the Rocky Mountaineer, one
of the world’s most iconic rail journeys (deluxe
passengers in GoldLeaf) for this scenic rail journey
to Kamloops in the interior of British Columbia. Pass
through the rich fields of the Fraser River Valley
and the towering peaks of the Coastal Mountains
before entering the Fraser Canyon and arriving in
Kamloops.
Day 2: Kamloops - Banff
Back on-board the Rocky Mountaineer today
following the South Thompson River to Shuswap
Lake with its thousand miles of shoreline. Pass
Craigellachie, where the ‘last spike’ was driven
completing the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1885.
Enter Rogers Pass, with its tunnels, snow-sheds and
glistening Glaciers. The Kicking Horse River leads
you to Kicking Horse Pass, the Spiral Tunnels and
over the Continental Divide to Banff for a 2 night
stay.
Day 3: Morning sightseeing tour of Banff
This morning, tour the town of Banff. Among the
highlights are visits to the Hoodoos (shaped by
centuries of wind) & Bow Valley Viewpoint, Surprise
Corner, Bow Falls and Lake Minnewankal past. At
the end of the tour you will be taken to the Banff
Gondola for a breathtaking ascent to the pinnacle of
Sulphur Mountain for an awe-inspiring 360-degree
panorama of sheer mountain majesty. Make your
own way back to your hotel at your leisure.
Day 4: Banff - Lake Louise
Depart Banff early afternoon for a short drive via the
scenic Bow Valley to Lake Louise.
Day 5: Lake Louise - Jasper
Travel by coach today via one of the most scenic
highways in North America - the Icefields Parkway.
Visit the Columbia Icefield that covers an area of
nearly 125 square miles and reaches a depth of
1050 feet. Enjoy a ride on the Athabasca Glacier
and a visit to the award-winning Glacier Skywalk
to experience a glass-floored observation platform
918 feet over spectacular glacier-formed valleys and
rushing waterfalls. Photo stops along the Parkway
will be made at Bow & Peyto Lakes, the Crowfoot
Glacier and the Athabasca Falls. This highway is
renowned for sightings of bears, elk, moose &
mountain sheep, so keep your camera handy.
Please note: mountain lakes in this region will be
frozen through to mid-June.
Day 6: VIA Rail The Canadian Jasper - Toronto
Spend the day relaxing in Jasper. This evening board
VIA Rail’s ‘Canadian’ for the famous train journey
across the prairies to Toronto. Accommodation for 3
nights: Sleeper Touring Class
By day, sit back in comfortable seating and
enjoy the stretch out comfort of your very own
accommodation. At night attendants will transform
your quarters into a bedroom. Guests have access
to the Park Car, always at the tail end of the train
whose tapered shape gives the car its distinctive
look.
Day 7: On-board VIA Rail
Watch the scenery change as you leave the
mountains for the prairies and great plains of
Canada. Overnight on-board the train.
Day 8: On-board VIA Rail
northern Ontario. Glide through gentle prairie fields,
rugged lake country and picturesque towns to the
cosmopolitan city of Toronto.
