Rhonda Ruby, MS, RN<br />
Ms. Rhonda Ruby, MS, RN is the Iowa Nurse Assistance Program Coordinator with the<br />
Iowa Board of Nursing. Her current position requires expertise in developing, coordinating<br />
and managing all aspect of the <strong>INA</strong>P program and educating the community on how<br />
<strong>INA</strong>P can help impaired nurses. She is responsible for the monitoring of all active<br />
participants in the program, as well assuring compliance to program requirements.<br />

COURSE PURPOSE: This session will describe the alternative to discipline (ATD)<br />
process utilized by the Iowa Nurse Assistance Program for impaired nurses. It will<br />
explain how employers can utilize <strong>INA</strong>P to assist impaired nurses in the workplace<br />
including reentry into safe practice.<br />

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this presentation the nurse should be able to:<br />
1. Identify the alternative to discipline process utilized in <strong>INA</strong>P process including referral, eligibility, intake, and monitoring.<br />
2. Identify key components of an effective alternative to discipline program.<br />
3. Distinguish between disciplinary and non-disciplinary approaches used by the Board.<br />
4. Recognize the strengths and benefits of the Iowa Nurse Assistance Program.<br />
