Simmentaler top-priced<br />

bull at Smaldeel auction<br />

THE 19th annual Smaldeel Multibreed<br />

Bull and Ram Sale was held last<br />

month at Stillerus, Adelaide, with Ian<br />

Sheard of Sheard Auctioneers as the<br />

a u c t i o n e e r.<br />

On offer were 50 rams (boerbok,<br />

Ile de France, dormer and white<br />

dorper), 24 bulls (Angus, Brahman,<br />

Simmentaler, Winterberger and<br />

Boran) and 30 young maiden<br />

Boergoat ewes.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Boergoat rams of Stephanus<br />

Malan and Eli Klopper averaged<br />

R4 900, with the top price of R7200<br />

sold by SW Malan to ZA Quwe from<br />

Whit tlesea.<br />

Ile de France rams belonging to<br />

Brian and Robert Miles averaged<br />

R7 167, with two of them fetching the<br />

top price of R8600 being sold to<br />

Willie Kilian of Kirkwood and Attie<br />

Steyl of Stutterheim.<br />

Dormer rams offered by Francois<br />

Norval averaged R7214 with the<br />

top-priced ram sold for R7800 to<br />

Hugh Ainslie of Spring Grove in the<br />

Bedford district, who also bought the<br />

most expensive Winterberger bull<br />

from Johannes Norval.<br />

<strong>The</strong> top-priced bull of the day was<br />

a Simmentaler sold by Johannes<br />

Norval to Wentzel Broers from the<br />

Adelaide district.<br />

Special thanks were offered to the<br />

sponsors who have supported the<br />

sale during the years. <strong>The</strong> buyers of<br />

the highest-priced bull and ram also<br />

received an EPK handmade whip and<br />

wine. <strong>The</strong> sellers were all dressed in<br />

sponsored shirts and all registered<br />

buyers received a Smaldeel B&R cap.<br />

<strong>The</strong> 20th sale will take place next<br />

year on <strong>September</strong> 6 and the club<br />

plans to make it an occasion not to<br />
