A good number of WA clay workers attended
the Australian Ceramics Triennale in Sydney.
Shoe leather was left behind on Sydney streets
from visit ing some fabulous exhibitions around
the city. A highlight for me was the Freeland
Gallery in Paddington, with its cellar of historical
ceramic works. It was a total joy to soak up
the atmosphere in the character-filled district
of DarlinghursVPaddington. Oh yes, and
Greg Crowe was an extremely hard-working
demonstrator.
Congratulations to Janet Kovesi-Watt on the
publication of Perth Studio Potters, The First
50 Years . Janet is Club Historian for Perth Studio
Potters and a member of the group for over 40
years. She has put in a great deal of her time
to compile this book which will be a wonderful
legacy for the PSP. It is also an important
document outlining the history and growth of
pottery in Perth.
The Ceramic Arts Association's Annual Selective
Exhibition was held this year at the Fremantle
Contemporary Art Gallery and was opened
by Vicki Grima who also selected the award
winners. Winners were Stewart Scam bier and
Rod Blumenfeld, with Highly Commended
to Cher Shackleton, Fleur Schell and Alison
Brown. And just to keep Vicki out of mischief,
she presented a ceramic jewellery workshop the
next day at Perth Central TAFE .
Stewart Scambler stepped down as President at
CAAWA's AGM, with Cher Shackleton elected to
replace him. Canadian ceramic artist Grace Nickel
