In Conversation with
Phil Hart
Vicki Grima: When did you first use clay and what did you make?
Phil Hart: I first used clay at primary school; some friends and I dug some clay up out of the schoolyard
and made some elaborate gnomes.
VG : Where is your current studio?
PH : I am working from home; the studio is 39 steps away.
VG : Do you work alone or with others?
PH: After nearly 20 years of working in group studios I am now just like Eric Carmen, it's All By My Self.
VG: How long have you been working in your current studio?
PH: Almost two years.
VG : What are the essential features a studio of yours has to have?
PH: I like the idea of making do and working with what you have; lots of folks seem to get caught up in
technology and equipment. Having said that, a roof to keep the weather off, some power and lighting
helps a lot.
