BOYTEKS Designs Setting
the Trends in the Sector
BOYTEKS, among the major
and most innovative brands of
industrial textile, started to have
its name rather frequently with
its designs in 2017. BOYTEKS,
has become the number one
preferred brand of industrial
buyers for its mattress ticking,
upholstery fabric and carpet
manufacturing, has also become
a favourite brand counterfeit the
most.
Seyit Ali KOKSAL, Vice General Manager of BOYTEKS
Upholstery Fabric, who highlighted that they are one of
the first brands that spring to mind when innovation is at
stake in the sector, has also said that ‘BOYTEKS, today,
is a well-known and recognized brand within its target
audience whenever you go throughout the entire world.
We have realized exports to more than 100 countries last
year. Our teams, ranging from pattern design to R&D,
from Quality Management to Logistic units, have been in
intensive endeavours. Our manufacturing and collection
teams are always together with our sales team on field
and with out customers.
October 2017

9
We are traveling with these teams to more than 50
countries. We are a very young and dynamic team. We
are in an endeavour to present what our customers’
expectations are and even exceed beyond those. We
have made serious investments in design in the recent
years. We have increased the number of our teams and
we performed activities in order to gain different perspectives
of the provider to protect the authenticity. We
started to reap the fruits of those moves and accomplish
satisfactory outcomes. Currently, major furniture
manufacturers do utilize the patterns of BOYTEKS and
request those. This is a very significant step for us in
the course of brandling.’ Seyit Ali KOKSAL, highlighted
that it is a brand with the high geographical extent and
prevalence and added that ‘the approach and interpretation
of the countries towards patterns and designs
are very different. We are also successfully able to
manage these discrepancies and differences emerged
within the target audience and geography.’
Seyit Ali KOKSAL, commented that they attach great
importance to effective utilization of technology and
mobile applications and continued his speech as ‘we
are in an endeavour with our marketing team regarding
how we can provide better services to our customers,
how we can take on a better consultancy task for our
customers. Due to the mobile applications recently developed
by us, our customers now are able to design
their own furnitures and have the opportunity to see
the furniture of their dreams before manufacturing process.
This application provides serious benefits and advantages
to our customers in terms of accelerating the
work processes and avoiding problems that can occur
in the post-manufacturing process.”

Sustainable in many
different ways:
recycling at Trevira
Collection point with transparent PET bottles
On the 4th October 2017 a new brand was introduced at
Trevira: Trevira SINFINECO®. This label may be carried by all textiles
that contain sustainable Trevira products. Sustainable, innovative,
high-value and responsible – these are the values the new
brand stands for.
As an industrial enterprise, Trevira is conscious of its special responsibility
for an intact environment and has long advocated the
recycling of valuable raw materials and waste products. Trevira
CEO Klaus Holz: “We at Trevira wish to preserve the environment
and at the same time work to create value. These are the criteria
of our sustainability concept.“
October 2017

23
Bottle Flakes
Regranulate
Creation of the new brand is therefore only a logical step,
one that enables customers to label their sustainable
Trevira products as such. Trevira is known for the high
quality of its products. In every way recycled products are
as good as the original materials in terms of quality and
performance.
Two vital elements in Pre-Consumer Recycling and an important
concept in Post-Consumer Recycling form part of
the sustainability strategy of Trevira to conserve resources
and maintain value.
In the area of Pre-Consumer Recycling, on the one hand,
residual materials resulting from the manufacture of polyester
fibers and filaments in Bobingen and Guben, dependent
on the manufacturing step, are processed in the
agglomeration plant and restored to become serviceable
primary material. The recyclates are then fed back to our
fiber and filament spinning mills, to be made into new
top-quality products.
On the other hand, in fiber production there occurs in the
manufacture of tow a small proportion of tow that cannot
be used for converting and has to be cut out. Instead of
selling this material as waste, it is cut up, pressed into
balls and then carded / combed by a partner, resulting in a
1A quality product. The GRS certification (Global Recycled
Standard) is requested for this. As with converter tow from
new material, the recycled tow is mostly incorporated into
polyester wool blends (55 % PET / 45 % wool), which are
used primarily in corporate wear and uniforms.
In the area of Post-Consumer Recycling, Trevira offers filament
yarns consisting of 100 % recycled PET bottles. Our
parent company Indorama manufactures very high quality
recycled chips from PET bottles. Since only transparent
PET bottles are used in Thailand, the flakes and chips are
of a particularly good and very uniform quality. The recycled
chips, fibers and filaments from Indorama bear the
GRS certificates (Global Recycled Standard) and RCS-NL
(Recycled Claim Standard). Trevira processes the regranulate
made by Indorama from bottle flakes into filament
yarns consisting 100 % of recycled material. The filament
yarns are available in titres 167 and 76 dtex normal polyester.
Alongside technical applications, they are used in
the automotive and apparel sectors. In addition, many
promising developments with the recycled material are on
their way.

Entema offers machinery
solutions for home textile
manufacturers
The company has been manufacturing and
marketing a wide variety of drying and finishing
machinery under the name of Swell Soft for the
home textile industry.
Established in 1992 in Corlu, Tekirdag, Entema has
mainly focused on the manufacturing of special machinery
for drying and finishing of variety of textile products.
Omer GOKCAN, a partner of the company, has informed
that ENTEMA machinery exported successfully to several
countries in South and North Africa, Middle East, Central
Asia, Asia Pacific and Far East regions.
Machines that are sold under Swell Soft brand are developed
and produced 100% domestically by using internationally
protected patents and they can be used in the
processing of several types of textile products such as
towels, velvets, special, delicate textiles and other fabrics.
The development and the production of the machinery is
supported with R&D incentives provided by Tubitak, the
scientific and technological research authority in Turkey.
Swell Soft machinery can process a wide range of fabric
categories, including the lighter tulle, knitted or woven
fabrics, velvets, draperies, imitative leathers, blankets,
carpets made of all kinds of natural or synthetic fibers.
October 2017

33
One of the early models of Swell Soft is the carpet finishing
machinery that was installed in the factory of KARTAL
Carpet, one of the major carpet manufacturer brands in
Gaziantep in 2012 and it still serves flawlessly. Another
one is sold to Erdenet Carpet company in Mongolia. Talks
with companies in Belgium, Iran, Egypt, and China are
continuing to sell machinery to buyers in the countries
mentioned above.
Omer Gokcan
Swell Soft finishing machines are also used in the processing
of digitally printed fabrics and textiles successfully.
The product has been developed after close cooperation
with Sevket Taskin of Taskin Carpet firm, the famous
name of the bathroom carpet industry. Following the
success in the production of pilot product, one of them
was manufactured and delivered to the factory of Taskin
Carpet company in Istanbul, who produces carpets under
Seroni brand and was installed in their factories in 2016.
One of the advantages of Swell Soft machinery over other
similar brands is that it has a patented drum system that
processes the material by linearly moving in completely
open position. Besides, it can be operated after dyeing
stage either from wet to dry, or from dry to dry in steamy
chambers.

34
HTE
PROFILE
Since there is no fabric-to-fabric friction during
process breakage, abrasion, NONHOMOGEN shining
and wastage are completely prevented. At the
end of the process important increases are seen
as softness, having body, free of dust and fibers,
enlivening colors, ABRASION RESISTANCE, etc.
Machines cover lesser space, uses lesser energy,
has lower noise, easy to operate and are environmental
friendly. Swell Soft machinery can be manufactured
for the production of fabrics up to the 5
meters wide.
The company continues its research and development
studies incessantly, and a new version of the
machine is being developed in cooperation with
one of the leading textile companies in Turkey.
This project is also been supported by the funds
provided by Tubitak, the technologic research authority
Apart from the traditional product groups,
Heimtextil Russia 2017 also presented its new
specialized areas, that provide a valuable impetus
for interior decoration and design:
• Digital Print exposition, which had already
been announced as a separate product group
of the fair this year. It included such companies
as Epson, NISSA Stensart, RussCom-Graphics,
Yuan Tai Printing and others.
• Contract textiles with a full range of textile
products, specially designed for use in hotels,
restaurants and cafes, could be found in the
assortment of several Heimtextil Russia exhibitors.
• Wallpaper Bar Pavilion, that features wallpaper
and wall coverings.
• Design Laboratory as a separate area for textile
designers to present their works and find a
manufacturer for their implementation.
• Design Academy, that included lectures,
practical workshops and seminars dedicated
to textile and interior design. Anne Marie
Commandeur from Stjilinstituut Amsterdam
was the invited guest of the fringe programme.
During the first two days of the fair she made

presentations about the Heimtextil Trends 2017/2018,
which are considered to be the landmark of international
textile industry. And the whole fringe programme attracted
a large professional audience of designers and decorators
and enabled added value for knowledge exchange.
Textile design is another direction, actively
developed at Heimtextil Russia
Surface design in general and textile design in particular
is a young, developing industry on the Russian market.
Besides, it is an integral part of textile manufacturing
business. That’s why it is important to promote and develop
this direction in Russia and show its participants
how this industry functions. One of the significant parts
of the fringe programme was the annual design contest
for the best collection of textile prints. Kirill Ovchinnikov
became the winner of the contest, and in January 2018
he will take part as an exhibitor in International trade fair
Heimtextil in Frankfurt. This contest will allow to take the
industry of textile design in Russia to a new level.
Heimtextil Russia 2017 has proved its importance for further
growth and development of the Russian professional
textile industry. The 20th edition of Heimtextil Russia
will take place on September 18-20, 2018 in IEC Crocus
Expo, Moscow.
Sustainability in the
textile industry - properly
assess the global supply
Social and
environmental
concerns will soon
play a greater
role in public
procurement.
Although the aim
is simple, the
implementation
may prove to be
difficult.
Given the global supply chains within the textile industry,
even experts face numerous challenges when evaluating
the sustainability of uniforms and protective clothing.
Due to its international nature and the sheer volume of
third parties in the production chain, responsibility is increasingly
placed on those releasing new textiles onto the
market. Public procurement stipulates that clothing must
be safe, produced in environmentally friendly production
facilities and under decent working conditions. Yet how can
procurers gauge whether the supplier complies with these
provisions? Thanks to public procurement regulation, the
adherence to such sustainability requirements can now
be determined from labels. Labeled textile products offer
guidance and help consumers make responsible decisions
when purchasing work wear. Yet when bombarded with
hundreds of worldwide labels and certificates, selecting the
right one is by no means an easy feat, so much so that the
phrase “label labyrinth” was coined.
The MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX ® label offers buyers the safety
that products bearing the label are produced sustainably, and enables
them at the same time to transparently trace the manufacturing of the
article. © OEKO-TEX ®
In pursuit of a suitable label, it makes sense to draw on
those tried and tested designs. Since 1992 OEKO-TEX®
has been developing various solutions for environmentally
friendly and socially responsible textiles. The guiding principles
of OEKO-TEX® are based on transparency, traceability,
credibility and trust. Now available on the market, OEKO-
TEX® certificates and labels allow textile manufacturers to
prove compliance with environmental and social regulations
in their production chains. Whether it is the use of chemicals
in production, the continuous improvement of the supplier’s
working and production conditions or the safety of
the final product - it can all be independently and credibly
verified with the help of the various products developed by
the OEKO-TEX® Association.
With the label MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX®, for example,
procurers can even trace the production process of the finished
garment. Through a bar code or the product ID on the
label, the different stages of production can be viewed. On
the website www.siegelklarheit.de, the German Ministry for
Economic Cooperation and Development commends the
transparency that the MADE IN GREEN label offers consumers,
classifying it as a “very good option”.
Likewise, if the new legal status wishes to make procurement
procedures simpler, then sustainability regulation
requires a new approach. Relying on a trustworthy partner
is certainly advantageous. For 25 years, OEKO-TEX® has
offered easy solutions, enabling procurers to successfully
overcome the increasing demands of the market; ensuring
everything from chemical management, environmentally
friendly manufacturing processes and fair working conditions
to labels clearly displaying product performance. The
OEKO-TEX® system provides the optimal basis for this as
it continually refines its standards and always focused on
current market developments.
An exclusive interview with Mr. Massimo Mosiello,
General Manager of Proposte
Proposte poised for
business, pleasure and
prestige
The fabric and curtain show of Como, Italy,
never steps backwards from its strictly
controlled selective principles and this makes
it a legendary event.
October 2017

61
It is always more than a trade show. It is a pleasurable
event where you can enjoy your best vacation, you can get
inspired and motivated to develop your new collection, and
you can generate a great volume of business and trade.
There are some one hundred lucky European companies
accepted inside the show area of ancient Villa Erba. There
are hundreds of others only can imagine to be accepted
inside the show.
The world economy has been going through a tough time
in recent years. Europe is one of the main regions hit by
the crisis and Italy is no exception. Still, Proposte stands
straight. It has almost not lost anything and it seems this
show will be better thanks to its management, location and
established prestige.
We conducted an exclusive interview with Mr. Massimo
Mosiello, General Manager of Proposte Srl. He is very assertive
on the position of this legendary show. Full text of the
interview follows:
You enjoyed the 25th edition of Proposte
recording a big success. Considering the
economic situation in Italy and Europe, what are
your expectations for Proposte 2018?
PROPOSTE has always worked in a perspective of selection
and qualification of the participating companies and
of the innovative collections presented. This is the real
formula that has determined and confirmed the success
of the exhibition for 25 editions. The overall trend of the
specific reference market has certainly affected the var-

ious editions but the quality level of the products
that are presented, in worldwide exclusive,
means that the exhibition proved to be an indispensable
appointment in the trade fair system.
We have just started organizing the 2018 edition
and, of course, we hope to reconfirm the
good performance recorded in the past.
The internationality of the show
increased in 2017. Will it continue in
2018 and are you doing any special
promotional works to increase it?
Proposte was born as an international fair and it
has been able, edition after edition, to expand
the European participation to reach, in the latest
editions, a proportion of about 50% between
Italian and foreign exhibitors. Its internationality
has grown recently with the opening to the
global markets, first Turkish and then American.
We evaluate from time to time the requests of
participation that we receive and the confirmations
can be given on the basis of organizational
needs, exhibition and cultural planning, to ensure
the development of an high international
quality exhibition.
We will see whether the future will hold the
participation of qualified companies from other
countries around the world.
October 2017

63
Of course, our work also addresses the customers. I am
proud to say that the visitors of Proposte come from more
than 70 countries in the world and that the percentage of
foreign visitors is around 70%.
Is there any new development at International
Observatory?
International Observatory was born with the aim of responding
to all those companies that cannot find space
within the Exhibition Center of Proposte and to prevent
individual companies from finding locations scattered
around the territory without an order or an exhibition
planning.
It was a new challenge, carried out by one of the two
promoters of Proposte - Ascontex Promozioni - which has
proved to be very functional and successful, thanks to the
provided services and thanks to the direct link between
Proposte and the locations of International Observatory.
It is our intention to continue on this path, raising the
quality of the exhibitors.
Shall we see any new theme or event at Proposte
this year?
We will definitely give you news in the coming months.
Are you considering a foreign edition of
Proposte in another place of the world?
Our organization is always careful to evaluate global market
trends and the best positioning at country level too.
If there are evolutions, they will not be in the upcoming
future.

Offering original design upholstery,
window and wall coverings for
the residential and contract market,
MoOD, together with surface pattern
design show Indigo Brussels, took
place in September 2018 at Tour &
Taxis in Brussels.
MoOD/Indigo Brussels is a niche exhibition
with about 4000 visitors,
compact and to-the-point. It is a prestigious
event not to be missed by professionals.
You get immediately in the right mood
when you arrive at the premises of Tour
& Taxis. The restored early 20-century
stately warehouses are located at
the port in the city center of Brussels.
MoOD and Indigo Brussels take up
four whole halls, called Sheds, at the
former goods station. The exhibition
space is bathing in natural daylight
thanks to the remarkable construction
of the roof.
Furthermore MoOD is being decorated
in an inspiring way. Still there is
a certain reserved atmosphere at the
boutique show. Discrete, uniform and
attractive stands make sure that the
‘product is the hero’. The fabrics and
creations are in the spotlight. A concept
that has been tried and tested
that makes for an informal and relaxed
atmosphere, high-class as a result of
numerous beautiful highlights.
Quality from all over the world
The collections presented at MoOD and Indigo were focused
on the European market with exhibitors coming
from all over the world. MoOD unites 14 different nationalities
and the offer of Indigo hails from 17 different countries.
Visitors arrive from the four corners of the planet. Europe
remains most strongly represented with a percentage of
78%. Frontrunners are the UK, Germany, the Netherlands,
France and Belgium. The Scandinavian countries and
Norway in particular showed the strongest growth this year.
Non-European visitors mainly come from Russia, China,
India, Korea and Japan. Also visitors from Canada, the
US, Brazil, Columbia, Mexico, South Africa and Mauritius
made their way to Brussels.
The quality of the visitors was particularly appreciated by
the exhibitors. Three-quarters of them assigned MoOD/
Indigo a score of 75% or higher as it comes to visitor
quality. A result of the know-how as it comes to attracting
the right visitors.
Trends, innovations, awards and busy seminars
69
MoOD/Indigo Brussels knows how to fascinate show visitors
with a varied, inspirational offer. The trend show
PASSAGES, the Blue Drop selection, the Blue Drop Awards
and most certainly the Innovation Platform all appeared
to be a must-see for professionals who have a finger on
the pulse in our industry. The seminars attracted a large
audience and the guided walks were again fully booked.
Some facts about MoOD/Indigo Brussels 2017
100 MoOD exhibitors, weavers and printers showing their
new collections and designs, were joined by a selection of
25 Launch Pads. In addition, 10 exhibitors bringing their
latest innovations to the New Materials/MoOD Tech area
were another attraction for the event.
Indigo Brussels gathered 100 studios from 17 counties
showing high-level surface and pattern designs. The Indigo
Brussels exhibitors top 3: UK, France and Italy.
Indigo Brussels certainly is a great addition to MoOD. Both
shows make a perfect match!

Marteks looks back on a particular successful exhibition.
He spontaneously sent us his testimonial:
“We are extremely satisfied with the results of the show,
they were beyond our expectations. Different factors play
an important role in the complete package the show has
to offer:
- Timing: the moment when MoOD is taking place, is ideal,
not only for Marteks but also for the designers.
- Quality: we had high-level visitors, not only customers
but also very good contacts, prospects and leads.
Best Color Passage goes to Teksko
The Blue Drop Awards have been awarded on the second
day of MoOD. The Blue Drop exhibition is an inspiring
overview of the “best of the best” of what you can find at
MoOD selected from creations submitted by exhibitors.
Unique in its own way because it is the world’s only quality
label of its kind for interior textiles.
The color award goes to a fabric that uses only one color.
It may seem a little awkward, but the jury chose this fabric
for the way the color changes according to the play of light
in the yarns. One color became many colors. It was the
fabric developed by Turkish Teksko.
- Brussels: the location is just perfect, in the heart of
Europe, everybody gets there in a convenient way (airports
and railway stations nearby).
- Venue & concept: the venue of Tour & Taxis is unique;
the “boutique” concept fits perfectly.
- Service: the visitors feel they’re welcome. They get free
coffee & tea at the central coffee corner, there is a lot of
interactivity e.g. the Trend Seminars, Walks & Talks, the
Innovation Platform, ... etc. Marteks will most certainly be
exhibiting at MoOD 2018!”
PROFILE
HTE
SPGPrints presents
the flexibility and
quality of its PIKE ®
and JAVELIN ®
digital textile printers
at 2017 SGIA Expo
SPGPrints has recently displayed its comprehensive
range of digital technologies and inks for textile printing
at 2017 SGIA Expo, 10-12 October, at the Ernest N. Morial
Convention Center, New Orleans.
Featured were SPGPrints’ two leading digital textile printers,
the PIKE® and the JAVELIN®. The JAVELIN is a multi-pass
scanning head printer, available in print widths of 1850mm
and 3200mm. It has an output of up to 367 linear meters
per hour and offers an annual capacity of up to 2 million
linear meters.
The PIKE printer is the ideal solution when a higher annual
capacity is needed. PIKE is a single-pass, 1850mm-wide
printer, operating at speeds of up to 40 linear meters per
minute. Both JAVELIN and PIKE facilitate fast responsiveness
when meeting demands for both short and longer production
runs. Both printers use SPGPrints’ unique Archer®
technology that is capable of firing variable drops (2-10pL)
up to 4mm on to the substrate using Fujifilm Dimatix Samba
print heads. This enables a very wide range of materials to
be printed with the assurance of accurate fine lines, solid
blotches, crisp geometrics and micro-florals. The variable
drops mean that a wider color gamut can be achieved with
a standard color set than with the high-definition gamut of
other suppliers. The technology, with its higher color density,
also contributes to higher ink yields, and thus lower ink
consumption and better cost-efficiency.
PIKE and JAVELIN use tailor-made reactive inks, developed
and manufactured by SPGPrints. Acid, sublimation and
disperse inks are under development and will be released
in the coming months. This enables use of these printers
for fast-fashions, limited editions, couture fashion, swim-
wear, sportswear, and interior decor applications like bedding,
curtains and soft furnishing, as well as soft-signage.
SPGPrints also makes a range of digital inks, including sublimation
inks, for printers with Kyocera print heads. SPGPrints
Nebula inks, developed to meet all Kyocera requirements,
and manufactured at SPGPrints’ recently expanded 1000m2
ink facility in Boxmeer, deliver a high level of color quality,
reliability and runnability to ensure optimal performance
and uptime.
A global market leader and digital pioneer
SPGPrints introduced the first digital textile printer in 1986
and is in its fourth decade of innovation and production.
SPGPrints printers and inks are designed to work as an endto-end
system. From software and ink, through to drying,
each stage integrates with the whole to bring customers reliability,
print quality and production efficiency.
SPGPrints America, Inc., is one of a global network of
SPGPrints companies based in regional markets to ensure
high levels of service, fast deliveries of consumables and
timely support. Local market knowledge means that the
company is able to provide consultancy services for specific
applications, and advise on market strategy and supply
chain management.
“Digital textile printing is a major challenge for many textile
printers,” said Sangeeta Sachdev, managing director,
SPGPrints America. “We are able to help printers and
their customers understand the implications of the digital
proposition and its benefits, to help them make the right
investment decisions. Along with the demands of fast-fashion
come the issues of streamlined logistics, just-in-time
deliveries and profitability. With its global and local understanding
of the world of textile printing, SPGPrints is ideally
positioned to help customers make the move into digital
production.
“At the same time, SPGPrints provides digital imaging solutions
for screen printers, as well as a comprehensive range
of screens to meet today’s demands for detail, durability
and sustainability,” Sangeeta Sachdev concluded.

Shanghai’s New International Expo Centre (SNIEC)
will again host the event on March 20-22, 2018. This is a
great opportunity to attend seminars and events on the
latest trends and developments in the Asia Pacific region
and globally.
Last year, exhibitor satisfaction of the quality of visitors
was remarkably high, as the number of international decision-makers
also increased. The 2018 show is set to
be the biggest one yet, with over 500 exhibitors expected
from all over the world, occupying more than 50,000
square meters of exhibition space.
Many attendees come to R+T conferences to learn, meet
with business partners, and meet industry leaders. These
educational opportunities serve as a perfect interaction
Significant Asia
Asia, home to some of the most powerful markets, has experienced
tremendous economic growth in recent years.
This is mainly due to the region’s massive population, its resources,
its strategic location, and its expanding infrastructure.
Due to its aggressive growth, the Asia-Pacific region
will account for two-thirds of the world’s middle class by
2030.
Strategically placed Shanghai is currently seen as the hottest
and most vibrant market in the world, moving fast and
focused on economic quality. Many Western producers of
sun protection systems, roller shutters, and entry and garage
doors believe that there is no space for their products
in China, which is seen as “the world’s largest factory.”
However, as the number of urban middle-class customers
grows, so does their purchasing capacity and their interest
in quality products.
R +T Asia itself is widely regarded as the best purchasing
platform in the Asia Pacific region because it provides abundant
opportunities for effective networking and information
sharing.
Hosted Buyer Program 2018
R+T Asia’s Hosted Buyer program returns again this year as
Mattress, the shining star
of Turkey in furniture
manufacturing
October 2017

81
Turkey has attracted the attention of the world
especially because of the export-oriented growth,
structural reforms and major investments in last
decade. This has led growth in furniture exports,
too, so much so that the sector set its major target
2023 as being one of top-five industries in the
world. This idea keeps the sector very assertive.
Ahmet Güleç, Chairman of the Board of Federation
of Furniture Industrialists and Businessmen
(MOSFED), says that they had targeted to be one of
the first 5 furniture countries in 2023 with a manufacturing
volume of 25 billion dollars and export
volume of 10 billion dollars. The figures Mr. Güleç
pronounced at a recent press conference are not
something could be underestimated. Pointing out
that the quality and current usage rate of Turkish
furniture of 72.4 as of 2016 should be increased,
Ahmet Güleç said that there were 36 thousand furniture
manufacturers in 61 provinces of the country
and that they had been realizing 5.749 billion
dollars worth of furniture manufacturing with an
employment power of 500 thousand heads. Güleç
said the total of the sector had a growth of 10 billion
dollars.
Highlighting the fact that furniture is an employment-friendly
sector generating foreign trade
surplus, Güleç said, “Furniture industry has an
influence on 19 sectors. Turkish furniture industry
realized 2 billion 315 million dollars worth of
exports in 2015. This figure represents 12th rank
in Turkey’s total export items.” He mentioned
main export markets as Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Libya,
Germany, Azerbaijan, France, Turkmenistan,

82
HTE
EVENTS
England, UAE and USA adding that the main target
markets were USA, Germany, France and the UK. “We
realize exports to 204 points by around 10 thousand
export companies,” Güleç noted. “Our exports to Saudi
Arabia increased by 2.7%, to England by 0.2% and to
the USA by 0.3%. The volume with Russia decreased
down to the line below top-ten and the USA replaced
Russia with which a political crisis had been experienced.
This is an important development. The seeds
planted for some years have started to give the fruits.
We are expecting folded increases in our exports to the
USA in future years.”
In order to read the figures supplied by
Güleç we need to look at the World figures in
production:
Furniture is one of the major industries in the world
yielding a total annual value of average 437 billion dollars
as the main industry and sub and auxiliary industries.
Furniture and Mattress Industries in Turkey and
in the World
China, Germany, Italy, Poland and USA are the largest
exporters of furniture in world markets. In this enlarging
market, Turkey aims to be one of the top countries
at the race and it has all elements and opportunities to
reach its targets. Investments both in production and
in research and development activities as well as the
supports and incentives of state are on the increase for
years. Though there are more to be done to become
a major country in terms of setting trends in designs,
like Italy, several designers in Turkey has managed to
sell their designs and products in almost all parts of
the world.
A good number of powerful producers are active in
furniture industry. In addition to them, major investors
are seeking partners and opportunities to invest
in Turkey and to establish partnership with Turkish
furniture and mattress companies. They invest serious
funds in this industry.
October 2017

Turkey has an ambitious target for the year 2023 aiming
to export 25 billion dollars worth of furniture to international
markets. In order to be one of the top five countries
in the world we have to do more than that especially in
the promotional fields. We have to invest and spent more
for marketing and promotion of Turkish furniture products.
We must participate more fairs, visit every event in
the world related with this industry, and seek more opportunities
in every square meters of the globe.
83
THY, the national flag carrier, is the most successful example
in our efforts in world markets. For many years, the
THY has been known as the top airline having the most
destinations in air flights. Even they are still expanding to
reach more parts of the world.
Another point that needs to take into account is the network
that is needed for any powerful industry who wants
to be an international player. Furniture industry has a
powerful supplier network who produces quality elements
for furniture manufacturing and higher technologies needed
for better products. The best and the most attractive
fabrics, upholstery, linens are made in Turkey. Every
needs of the manufacturers are met by several stakeholders
in the furniture industry. One only need to act as an
intelligent entrepreneur in this sector by aiming high in
international markets.
All of our views expressed for the furniture industry can
be repeated almost as the same for especially the mattress
industry. All are true for this segment as well. In
2015, mattress industry in the world has sold about 2
billion dollars worth of mattresses. Chinese are leaders
in this market with their annual exports
about 442 million dollars. Poland comes
next with 237 million dollars of exports
who was followed by Portugal with 89
million dollars of exports.

84
EVENTS
HTE
Chinese companies in total is also the
leader in the market in terms of the total
weigh of exports with 105 thousand tons.
Poland and Portugal follow them. Turkey
ranks at fourth position with its 15 thousand
tons of mattress exports. This shows
that Turkish manufacturers have become
mature enough to compete in the world
markets with major producers.
Mattress Industry in the World
40 percent of the mattresses manufactured
in the world are spring type of
mattresses. 45 percent are made foam
based. The USA, China and Brazil are top
producers and consumers of mattresses
in the world. Top three importers of
mattresses in the world are Germany,
France and the USA. Top three exports of
mattresses ranked as Poland, China and
Belgium. By now Turkey is not mentioned
among top ten countries importing and
exporting mattresses.
Mattress industry in Turkey
95 percent of mattresses in Turkey is
produced as spring type, only 5 percent
of mattresses are made of foams.
Investment of mattress manufacturers totaled
about 40 to 50 million dollar. There
are 25 firms in the mattress industry each
are employing 50 to 500 workers in their
facilities. With smaller sized businesses
the number of companies active in mattress
manufacturing in Turkey rises up
to 400. Since entry costs are rather low
in the industry there are more producing
companies more than the need. Some of
them are makeshift companies who have
low quality products.
Major producers are concentrated in
Kayseri, Istanbul and Izmir. Kayseri meets
almost half of total manufacturing in the
country with its annual production of 2
million mattresses. Annual exports of
October 2017

86
HTE
EVENTS
these companies run about 46 million dollars. Most of the
mattresses produced in Turkey is sold in European and
Middle Eastern countries. Turkey is located in an advantageous
position both geographically and in terms of labor,
energy, raw material supplies for mattress manufacturing.
The mattress industry sells about 4 million mattresses annually
in the country, 3 million of them are distributed
through classic channels, while 1 millions are sold in exclusive
and moderns sales channels. The growth pace of
the mattress industry is forecast to be higher then before,
when the investments in hotel and hospitality industries
with their needs of about 900 thousand items of mattresses.
There are powerful brands belonging to these major companies.
Thee brands of Boydak group are seen as the
leader in total sales, with its Istikbal, Bellona and Mondi
brands, who also sell furniture and mattresses to world
markets. Among other brands in the business are BRN,
Yatas, Yatsan, Idas, Monessa, Laressa, Isbir, Edas, Nobel,
Kilim, Homevs, Indivani, Visco Love, Kayzer, Pierre Cardin,
Kaybed, Ipek Furniture etc. They are active both in domestic
and international markets.
The industry is still growing with the new entrants in the
market. New brands are emerging. Companies are growing
by additional machinery and investments. Machine
manufacturers, component suppliers, from both Turkey
and from foreign countries from four corners of the world
are trying to sell their products to mattress manufacturers
in Turkey. They are all participating in the fairs and trade
events held in the world, and spending in promotional activities.
Sectoral media and publications are also growing
and proliferating. Because, mattress industry is still growing
and promises more opportunity in the future.
Any company who invests for branding, emphasize on
R&D, targeting major markets in Europe, USA and in
Japan may get its share in this ever growing market. Since
the 2000’s, manufacturing of mattresses has been moving
away labor based manufacturing to technology based
production. Buyers are demanding A class mattresses and
lower costs. If the producers in Turkey aim for high quality
premium products, and invests more in their businesses,
they may easily compete with their European rivals and
become successful more in the future. If then, their competition
may come to Turkey as brands who wants to buy
their goods from Turkey.
Intertextile Shanghai
Home Textiles attracted
more trade buyers this
year resulting in strong
business outcomes
Overseas exhibitors found the fair an effective
platform to open up the Asian market. Led by UTIB
(Uludag Textile Exporters’ Association), Turkey had
a professional and the largest national pavilion
with the latest textile trends
October 2017

91
The 23rd edition of Intertextile
Shanghai Home Textiles is over, with
both exhibitors and buyers satisfied
with the business outcomes resulting
from the fair’s four days. The largest
home textiles trading event in Asia
was held from 23 – 26 August, attracting
1,106 exhibitors from 30 countries
and regions. Given the strengthening
market conditions in China the
fair maintained its popularity, with the
number of trade buyers increasing to
38,964 from 99 countries and regions
(2016: 37,779 from 98 countries and
regions). The show also attracted more
international buyers this edition, with
a 16% increase in those coming from
abroad. “Intertextile Shanghai Home
Textiles has once again proven its
leading position in Asia as a business
and order platform for the industry.
There was a noticeable positivity from
both exhibitors and buyers this edition
regarding the current and future situation
of the domestic market, so we
are optimistic about the industry for
the next year,” Ms Wendy Wen, Senior
General Manager of Messe Frankfurt
(HK) Ltd said.
Overseas exhibitors found the fair
an effective platform to open up
the Asian market
As the leading event of its kind in the
region, the fair successfully attracts
a number of Chinese and Asian buyers
every year, ensuring suppliers can
develop their business further in the
region. This year, seven country and
region pavilions including Belgium,
India, Korea, Morocco, Pakistan,
Taiwan and Turkey were formed, with
exhibitors from all of satisfied they
could meet their target buyers.

EVENTS
While being in the minority at the fair, European brands
still managed to catch the attention of visitors due to
strong interest in their products from Asia. The Italian upholstery
supplier Enzo Degli Angiuoni Spa was satisfied
with the number of Asian buyers, particularly Chinese,
that they met at the fair. Mr Stefano Laurenzano, Export
Area Manager expressed: “A lot of visitors that saw us
here last year have come back again and are serious
about cooperating with us. Here you can get a lot of new
contacts and discover the Asian market. We’ve had mainly
Chinese buyers, but have had more Asian buyers from
South Korea, India, Malaysia and elsewhere to visit us this
year. We are seeing more business here in recent years.”
Being a newcomer to the fair, Iceland Duvet ehf felt the
potential in China. “We’ve had enough buyers including
retailers and manufacturers visiting our booth to make
our participation worthwhile. The interest from the buyers
has been genuine. Being a European brand helps more
than at fairs in Europe as we can stand out more here,” Mr
Ragnar Ludvik Runarsson, representative said.
Indian exhibitor, Paramount Textile Mills Ltd has been
joining the fair for three years. “Apart from meeting our
existing customers, we’ve had enquiries from potential
new customers from China as well as overseas including
the US and South America,” Mr Ram. M., Director of
Marketing & Finance said.
October 2017

93
Also with three years’ participation, Mr Samir Tazi,
General Manager of PIF Textile Emotions from Morocco
affirmed the show’s effectiveness in meeting important
buyers and decision makers. “It’s easier for us to meet
them here compared with some smaller European fairs.
Thanks to Intertextile Shanghai, we have also met the
major players in China.” Talking about this year’s result,
he continued: “We were very busy. We met with
more people than any other fairs. There are a lot of new
buyers and also returning buyers checking out our new
products.”
Participating in the Korea Pavilion, Sangwon Textile Co
Ltd found the fair helpful in attracting distributors and
wholesalers from Southeast Asia. Mr Jeon Hyeon Tae,
Sales Manager said: “We have found about five potential
and quality distributors from Taiwan, India, Philippines
and Singapore on the first day. We also got to meet a
number of wholesalers who prefer to buy from us directly
at the fair.” He added that Intertextile Shanghai
is also an ideal platform to launch new products for
their existing clients. As the largest pavilion this year,
the Turkey Pavilion was in the limelight of the show,
with both new and veteran exhibitors finding it useful to
exhibit in Intertextile Shanghai. Bezmez Ev Tekstil did
not intend to receive any orders in their first show, but
was surprised to obtain three in just one day. These concrete
results reassured their likelihood of coming back
next year. “We definitely see the potential for Turkish
products here in China as Chinese companies prefer
quality products nowadays,” Mr Ayhan Bezmez, representative,
further commented. Mr Fahri Goksin, Vice
President of Gokhan Tekstil agreed with Mr Bezmez that
Chinese buyers are in favour of new things like imported
goods and Western brands. His company has been in
the Shanghai fair for six years and continued to get satisfactory
results. “We’re looking for retailers, wholesalers
and online buyers. We’ve had all of these visiting our
booth already.”
Domestic exhibitors satisfied with the number of
potential customers and orders received
Recently, there is strong signs suggesting that the home
textiles market in China is recovering with both imports
and exports rising gradually. The positive outcome that
Chinese exhibitors achieved at the August’s fair have
resonated with the market condition. It is no surprise
to see a number of domestic booths packed with visi-

tors throughout the days. SohoCUT is a case in
point. To them, Intertextile Shanghai is the place
for actual business. “Compared with other fairs
we’ve been to, this is the exhibition where a huge
number of international buyers gather. We met
buyers from China, Mexico, Russia, the US, India
and Southeast Asia. We even got large orders for
the first two days.” Mr Wheatley Weng, Managing
Director said.
The fabrics of Wujiang Linwang Weaving Mill is
also sought after at the fair. Being a company
that do both exports and domestic trade, they
are happy to connect with local and overseas
customers during the show. “We’ve collected
around 100 leads on the first day, of which
70% are domestic and the remaining being international.
The overseas visitors are from Italy,
Poland, Germany, Denmark, Chile and Korea that
our products precisely meet their requirement.
We see high chances of cooperation after the
fair.” Mr Kenny, Sales Manager said.
Given the prevailing smart home concept in
China, Somfy China Co Ltd which specialised in
advanced sun-protection system has become one
of the highlights at the fair. Ms Nancy Nan, Chief
Executive Officer mentioned: “The visitor flow
has been really high that our booth is swarmed by
buyers. Amongst those visitors, there is no lack
of medium to high-end customers who placed orders
immediately.”
Editors assembled to promote high-end
products
To cater to the ascending standards of Chinese
customers, Intertextile Shanghai once again
brought editors together in hall 5.1 to maximise
their exposure to their target buyers. As foreign
brands with subsidiaries in China, JAB and
Prestigious see the growing interest in their premium
products in China. “We pay attention to the
changing buying habits of Chinese consumers
and, as such, have started promoting a series of
products under a unified lifestyle trend. It’s obvious
that we are gaining more awareness from
buyers at the fair,” Mr William Lin, Vice President
of JAB ANSTOETZ Interior (Shanghai) Co Ltd said.
He also appreciated the specific display area for
imported fabrics and the organisers’ attempt to
attract more designers, which helped them meet
more potential customers. Apart from getting
onsite orders, Prestigious Textiles (Shanghai) Ltd also
considers the show a promotion platform. “There is great
demand for our products in China. Though we achieved
similar sales compared with last year, through this fair our
brand has been well introduced to the market,” Mr Lewis
Liu, Sales Director expressed.
Originating from China, Euroart Co Ltd was another editor
that successfully showcased their latest collection at the
fair. “It is a good time to join the most influential home
textiles exhibition in Asia as we have just launched new
products in May. We are satisfied as some of our existing
clients plus new visitors came to our booth,” Ms Guo
Jianhua, Director Assistant said.
Industry players benefit from the expanded Digital
Printing Zone
The demand for digital printing solutions has been growing
in recent years, especially as the industry has put
more emphasis on green production. As such, the Digital
Printing Zone expanded in size this edition, incorporating
a Seminar Area and more exhibitors.
As an Italian company, MS Printing Solutions Srl experienced
the potential of the sector in China. “The fair has
been busy, and we’ve had steady flow of buyers coming
through. The potential in digital printing here is just beginning.
The Chinese government is pushing companies
to reduce their pollution, so it has a big advantage in this
regard over traditional textile printing,” Mr Walter Oggioni,
Regional Sales Manager stated, adding that the company
has been growing very fast globally, especially in China,
Turkey, India and Pakistan.

96
HTE
EVENTS
This potential holds for domestic machine manufacturers
as well. Specialising in the production of digital printing
machines, Guangzhou Xu Cheng Electronic Technology
Co Ltd was at the fair to meet fabrics suppliers. Mr Jesse
Luo, Overseas Manager explained: “Compared with exhibitions
for textile machinery, Intertextile Shanghai attracts
more fabrics suppliers, which are our target clients. It
helps even more as we are located in this special zone.
We’ve been talking to a lot customers, including overseas
buyers who are also interested in our machines.”
A series of seminars also provided opportunities for the
industry to share their insights on this emerging sector.
As a speaker, Foshan Sanshui Yingjie Precision Machinery
believed the session was mutually beneficial for them
and the audience. “Attendees are from the whole sector
including manufacturers and end users, so we can discuss
different perspectives. It will facilitate our improvement,”
Mr Peng Jichang, General Manager said. Mr Scott
Bai, representative of Huntsman Textile Effects (China) Co
Ltd also benefited from visiting the zone and the seminar.
“Together with seminar, the Digital Printing Zone can professionally
present the current situation for the industry.
When suppliers and users come together, we can discover
the way to enhance this technology.”
Buyers benefited from wide range of quality
exhibitors
Intertextile Shanghai is the largest trading platform in Asia
with the whole spectrum of home textiles and accessories
on offer. Hence, visitors, be they Chinese or overseas,
can access a wide range of quality suppliers that
meet their sourcing needs. Australian buyer, Mr Glenn
Whitchurch from Trabeth Textiles, was impressed with
his sourcing journey. “The polyester quality of domestic
exhibitors has been unbelievable. What’s more, we’ve
found the Chinese suppliers to be very flexible in meeting
our needs, they’re clearly keen to accommodate overseas
buyers.” Mr Whitchurch also commented favourably on
the product range at Intertextile Shanghai compared to
European fairs.
October 2017

97
One ongoing trend at the fair over recent years is the
increasing quality of domestic suppliers, which attracts
buyers to come back and source. Mezanin V SRL from
Moldova is a long-term supporter of the show, and place
orders every year. Its Vice Director, Mr Mihail Tornea
remarked: “It is an important event for us to meet new
suppliers from China. We are selective with the suppliers
we work with, but the Chinese companies here meet our
requirements. As a sourcing event, Intertextile Shanghai
is the best place to be.”
The fair’s VIP buyer programme also assists buyers in
meeting worldwide exhibitors at ease. Mr Bibo Lan is the
co-founder of Loft Curtains in the US and he is excited to
meet lots of potential suppliers here. “The arrangement
for VIPs is satisfying and it helps a lot to have my target
exhibitor information in advance. The largest benefit of
our visit is that we met Libeco from Belgium, while we
also confirmed to work with a blackout supplier at the
fair,” he said.
Chinese buyers agreed that Intertextile Shanghai is the
most effective sourcing platform in Asia. “Overseas suppliers
like Turkey exhibitors are our main interest. So far,
we have connected with four to five exhibitors in hall 4
and will place orders with them soon. In terms of exhibitor
number and the product range, I feel that the fair has
improved a lot. It is my favourite show with a lot of overseas
products to discover,” Mr Huang Shenghua, General
Manager of Ziranfeng Home Textile Co Ltd said.

Concurrent events inspired the industry
Apart from facilitating business between exhibitors
and visitors, the fair also incorporated various
design elements via a series of concurrent
events. These included display area like Trend
Home Furnishing Crossover Exhibition where
participants could find innovative designs and
ideas.
This was also the first time the Andrew Martin
fair took place concurrently. Experts from the
interior design, architecture and art sectors
were invited to share and discuss their views on
the transformation of design in the new information
era. Mr Kot Ge, founder of a domestic
interior design studio, LSDCASA was delighted
to join, and shared: “This show always attracts
many top interior designers and it’s my pleasure
to meet them here. Interior design and home
textiles are closely related and new concepts
can bring along improvement.”
feast of office furniture and environment with ingeniously
designed booths, a great variety of new products, new ideas
and application of intelligent products and space.
CIFF-Modern Home Furniture was set on the first floor of the
venue to greatly enhance the integrity of the themes. The
audiences could easily find the premium home furniture
and experience the industry trends regardless of walking
clockwise or counterclockwise without crossing the floor.
Many exhibitors said that their booths were extremely
crowded with 4-5 thousand visitors per day and they had
very fruitful contacts.
The forthcoming 41st edition of CIFF will be held in
Guangzhou, 28-31March 2018. Founded in 1998, China
International Furniture Fair, famous as CIFF, takes place
semi-annually in Guangzhou in March and Shanghai in
PROFILE
Brentano
introduces Fall
2017 Collection
The Grid collection transforms perpendicular
and parallel lines into innovative textiles
wheeling, III. (August 2017)— Inspired by the De
Stijl movement of the early 20th century, Brentano Design
Director, Iris Wang has created Fall 2017’s GRID collection.
Based upon the fundamental, linear principles of design,
this strong and graphic assortment introduces 18 inspiring
and versatile patterns and textures. Mod, without being
modish, the GRID collection demonstrates a fresh and sophisticated
approach to form and color.
Carefully constructed and thoughtfully interpreted, Piet and
Theo represent complimentary scales of the grid concept,
providing the foundation for the rest of the collection.
Pandora moves the classic chevron into firmly modern territory
with its bold and rhythmic color ways and refined use
of cut and loop pile velvet, further laying the groundwork
for the striking and energetic patterns and colors displayed
in Velocity and Cascade. These defining compositions are
supported by an array of luxurious and subtle textures like
Capri and Ray as well as understated but characterful drapery
fabrics such as Illusion, Purity and Verity.
In addition, three patterns in the Grid collection introduce
Brentano’s new Tri-sistant finish. This is Brentano’s brand
name, cross linked stain resistant treatment; comparable to
other cross-linked finishes, Tri-sistant is chemically bonded
to the fibers in the fabric thus producing a much longer
lasting stain resistant finish. With many fabrics also highlighting
industry leading performance properties
and easy care
features, the GRID collection
can truly claim
to be both beautiful
and practical, proving
once again Brentano
represents the very
best in modern, livable,
luxury.
