THE EXPERIENCE BY REIFOTHMAN
THE H HOTEL
We may sound a little biased saying this, but Play is hands-down amongst our
top five restaurants in town. When we heard of The Experience, an intimate
dinner with chef Reif Othman in a homely, cosy setting, with a menu based
upon whatever he feels like creating – much like our home dinner scenarios –
we knew we had to try it. The Experience is sited just above the restaurant and
truly does feel like you’ve entered an apartment, with stained wallpaper, large
lighting structures, comfortable armchairs, sweeping views of old Dubai, and an
open kitchen and dining seating arrangement. We sat with a lovely French
couple, making it seem as though we were invited to chef Othman's house for
a dinner party.
The evening began with freshly baked bread and amuse bouche followed
by Wagyu steak with a generous spread of anchovy paste and shiso cress.
We aren’t the biggest fans of anchovy, however this tasted a lot like tuna
and was quite flavour-packed. Up next, was Wagyu belly, followed by a
fresh piece of himachi sashimi. Other dishes featured a succulent piece of
meat – of course, the highest grade possible – and a single serving of ravioli
with an asbolutely tantalising sauce to complement. Desert was a tangy
passion fruit delight, ending on a light citrus note. Dining here is definintely
unlike your run-off-the-mill experience. Here, the ingredients steal the
limelight, with chef Othman sourcing only the best, playing around with
produce and dishes in the kitchen to curate a beautiful meal. As we rested
back and took a deep breath, chef Othman handed us each a goodie bag
filled with a chilli condiment and Zwilling J.A. Henckels products – a nice
parting gift.
