THE EXPERIENCE BY REIFOTHMAN<br />

THE H HOTEL<br />

We may sound a little biased saying this, but Play is hands-down amongst our<br />

top five restaurants in town. When we heard of The Experience, an intimate<br />

dinner with chef Reif Othman in a homely, cosy setting, with a menu based<br />

upon whatever he feels like creating – much like our home dinner scenarios –<br />

we knew we had to try it. The Experience is sited just above the restaurant and<br />

truly does feel like you’ve entered an apartment, with stained wallpaper, large<br />

lighting structures, comfortable armchairs, sweeping views of old Dubai, and an<br />

open kitchen and dining seating arrangement. We sat with a lovely French<br />

couple, making it seem as though we were invited to chef Othman's house for<br />

a dinner party.<br />

The evening began with freshly baked bread and amuse bouche followed<br />

by Wagyu steak with a generous spread of anchovy paste and shiso cress.<br />

We aren’t the biggest fans of anchovy, however this tasted a lot like tuna<br />

and was quite flavour-packed. Up next, was Wagyu belly, followed by a<br />

fresh piece of himachi sashimi. Other dishes featured a succulent piece of<br />

meat – of course, the highest grade possible – and a single serving of ravioli<br />

with an asbolutely tantalising sauce to complement. Desert was a tangy<br />

passion fruit delight, ending on a light citrus note. Dining here is definintely<br />

unlike your run-off-the-mill experience. Here, the ingredients steal the<br />

limelight, with chef Othman sourcing only the best, playing around with<br />

produce and dishes in the kitchen to curate a beautiful meal. As we rested<br />

back and took a deep breath, chef Othman handed us each a goodie bag<br />

filled with a chilli condiment and Zwilling J.A. Henckels products – a nice<br />

parting gift.<br />
