West to east…
We had a busy schedule with the previous issue. We started with
Intertextile Shanghai and continued with MoOD Brussels and finalized
with CIFF, China International Furniture Fair which also hosts subtitles
such as Hometextile China and Home Décor.
I was in China to see rapid growth in the industry especially in the value
of the production and design. The show displayed some real good masterpieces
of the home and contract industry. We were impressed during
a press tour by seeing world brands especially from Europe. Intertextile
had everything to surprise the professionals.
Despite minor or major fluctuations China is a huge market and bears
excellent trade and investment opportunities. The same market is
looking for extra values outside the mainland. The Silk Road is the main
gate. The recent history saw an increasing interest of China in the Silk
Road. There are major reasons for the emergence of China’s desire to
revive the Silk Road in this new period. The most important reason is
economic interest. The growth of China’s economy has begun to slow
in recent times. So, China is looking for new investments and long-term
trade opportunities beyond the borders. However, the gap between
China’s eastern and western regions is the other factor of economic
reasons that triggers China’s need for the Silk Road. At the same time,
China is increasingly dependent on energy resources. The Middle East
is the region which has the largest oil reserves. China is taking its crude
oil from the Middle East through the Malacca Strait. If China develops
the alternative resources and routes, its dependence reduces on the
Malacca Strait.
I visited this great country twice in three weeks. After joining Intertextile
Home Textile Autumn Edition for the first time and I enjoyed joining the
CIFF for the 21st time. CIFF is a very exciting show. It always offers a
wider spectrum of the furniture sector both for home and office. If I had
to summarize the CIFF with three words I would say trend, innovation
and variety in Asia.
This same magazine was also in Brussels to cover the major European
event MoOD and Indigo where many innovations and novelties were put
on display window of the fabrics and furnishings. We have been enjoying
this show for over ten years with great pleasure. Every year MoOD
definitely finds new things to surprise the professionals. This year was no
exception.
Brentano
introduces Fall
2017 Collection
The Grid collection transforms perpendicular
and parallel lines into innovative textiles
wheeling, III. (August 2017)— Inspired by the De
Stijl movement of the early 20th century, Brentano Design
Director, Iris Wang has created Fall 2017’s GRID collection.
Based upon the fundamental, linear principles of design,
this strong and graphic assortment introduces 18 inspiring
and versatile patterns and textures. Mod, without being
modish, the GRID collection demonstrates a fresh and sophisticated
approach to form and color.
Carefully constructed and thoughtfully interpreted, Piet and
Theo represent complimentary scales of the grid concept,
providing the foundation for the rest of the collection.
Pandora moves the classic chevron into firmly modern territory
with its bold and rhythmic color ways and refined use
of cut and loop pile velvet, further laying the groundwork
for the striking and energetic patterns and colors displayed
in Velocity and Cascade. These defining compositions are
supported by an array of luxurious and subtle textures like
Capri and Ray as well as understated but characterful drapery
fabrics such as Illusion, Purity and Verity.
In addition, three patterns in the Grid collection introduce
Brentano’s new Tri-sistant finish. This is Brentano’s brand
name, cross linked stain resistant treatment; comparable to
other cross-linked finishes, Tri-sistant is chemically bonded
to the fibers in the fabric thus producing a much longer
lasting stain resistant finish. With many fabrics also highlighting
industry leading performance properties
and easy care
features, the GRID collection
can truly claim
to be both beautiful
and practical, proving
once again Brentano
represents the very
best in modern, livable,
luxury.
The first sun that rays on the skin, the breeze that
moves the leafy branches, the noise of a bug… Hidden in
the forest, there’s a little door that takes to a secret garden.
This is the beginning of the WallPepper® spring tale, with
wallpapers showing different universes that evoke the ancient
frescos or the fluctuating worlds of the Japanese ukiyo-e.
There, between shining flowers and leaves mantles, you can
also find butterflies, little bugs and birds, in a perspective of
pure nature unknown to the human being.
Giardino segreto, Growing bliss and La selva fiorita, from
the new Silk Way Collection 2017, explore peaceful and
unexplored places where the springtime is free to reveal its
different moods and colors.
As in Glicine and Livia, showing on the walls different interpretations
of nature with several approaches, but always
charming.
Instead, the identity of the Naturalis collection shows a
more graphical essence, surely less multi-colored but still
very romantic. Grazie dei fior, Herbarium and The severed
garden, transform the botanical lithographies into bright
subjects that seem to break the fourth wall to embrace all
the space with their smell.
For those who love graphics and for those who prefer the
hyperrealism as well, for those who like the pastel colors
and for those that prefer the pop ones, for the women but
also for the men, WallPepper® offers in its catalogue many
different solutions that satisfy each taste and style, on its
special material made by PVC free textile fibers.
All you need to do is to wish…a little bit of spring.

What do you want to say about targets for 2017?
Following a period of three years which was full of problems,
we are hopeful about 2017. The early signals seem
promising. We want to increase our market share in the
countries we are already in by 50 % by producing qualified
products and selling them with right strategies.
Do you have any additional points to mention?
Turkey has a powerful position in home textile markets in
the world, however, it is not enough to be a supplier for
brands and other companies operating on lower profits. We
have to sell our products with our own brands, not of others.
70 percent of our production is now sold under our
brand name and we are so happy about this.
Do you have any activity in fairs held in abroad?
We have been participating in Heimtex Russia for six
years without break. We will be in Central Asian Fair in
Kazakhstan and HomeDeco fair in Ukraine in 2017.

To get a right position for us is important. We observe
Despite all these we have to put economic
On his evaluation about the year
Despite all hardships brought by professional
stick to the living. We became a great buyer
try to satisfy our nation. We are cooperating
with world famous designers that are
On the importance of fair activities
We believe that sectoral fairs that are held
Born with cooperation of two firms, 3K serves with
its knowledge accumulation and experience. 3K produces
on average daily 6000 color charts and folders, and nearly
4000 cardboards. The firm performs the business very well
with lots of brands both at home and abroad. Güneş Gözek,
official of the firm stated: “We are able to produce high
quality products and actually not being expensive in terms
of quality. This means we are competitive.” We conducted
an interview with Ms. Gözek about the firms’ activities and
future plans.
Would please tell us briefly your firm’s
background?
Our firm was newly born with cooperation of the two firms
in 3K sector, and serves to foremost firms of the sector
alongside the knowledge accumulation and experience of
long years.
How about your product groups and capacity
utilization?
We produce color chart, special box and folders. If the sizes
are not very big, lots of products yield from our machines
as very series and clean. We get orders of many brands in
remarkable numbers and we deliver fastidiously.
The production consists of 3 different lines including automatic
machine section, handloom with which nonstandard
special works are made and fabric section.. We can produce
daily on average 6000 color charts and folders, nearly 4000
cardboards. As for the handloom production, we make the
products featuring cutting-edge, floc covered interior, magnet
or the products which are not produced via machine. At
the fabric section, generally we prepare fabric color-charts
for home textiles. Here the products come as roll and output
as finished. And processes such as roll, overcast, waterfall,
strapping, labeling and mounting.
Would please brief about your current export
markets and targeting markets?
As every firm that oriented on growth, we also try to boost
our share in the market with every passing day. We make
works very well with lots of brands both in the home and
firms abroad. In fact, handmade intensive packaging in our
country are costed cheaper than many countries, for these
reason there is a noteworthy gap in the exports, we can be
able to produce high in quality products and actually not
being expensive in terms of their quality and of course we
want to emerge our this side and achieve bigger businesses
in the all alternative markets.
September 2017
How is your customer satisfaction policy?
53
Our basic principle is this. Because, our business we do
requires this. The products we make at the same time are
promotion and presentation arguments of our customers.
Nowadays, every product has lots of alternatives, the firms
which emerge these products to forefront through the best
packaging and presentation become successful more than
their rivals. Primarily, we make special promotion design
peculiar to the product through carefully inspecting, knowing
the features of that product. In other words, in fact, we
set out with the best idea and best design and finish the
works with high in quality product. This is one of the most
important features that make distinctive us from our rivals.
Do you join international fairs? Would you inform
about the fairs in the sector?
There are a lot of fairs which are held in our country and
featuring very robust. We try to participate in the most of
them, in 2018; we will join the international fairs abroad.
www.3kkutukartela.com | gunes@3kkutukartela.com
Have you set targets for the year 2017?
We follow up technology; I think we will be one step ahead
as speed and quality due to making new machinery investments
in new year. Our design team also renews and improves
themselves continuously. Our firm has a lot of powerful
features; this helps us to increase our success with
every passing year.
Would you want to add something about the
sector or your activities?
Primarily we are a firm that carries our business to the upper
level as quality and organization. As long as the number of
firm increases by making principle this feature it is not possible
to be undeveloped and non-innovative in the sector.
Maybe our biggest rival should be our own accumulation.

Fabric
industry in Turkey
September 2017
67
The most accurate information about the Turkish
fabrics industry can be found at the sources of Ministry
of Economy of Turkey. Following is the information provided
by the ministry (www.economy.gov.tr):
Having the largest share in Turkish industrial production,
the textile industry is one of the first established
industries in Turkey. The fabric industry as a sub-sector
of the huge Turkish textile industry has improved significantly
in recent years, since the Turkish clothing and
home textile industries have had a significant role in the
world’s clothing and home textile markets in the last two
decades.
68
HTE
FOCUS
The Turkish fabric finishing sector has a level of
processing all the capacity of grey fabric. This
sector is equivalent to the European Union in
terms of processing capacity, modern technology,
qualified workforce, and especially product
quality.
Today, the Turkish fabric industry has competitive
advantages in international markets, particularly
in terms of its technology, extensive product
range and the quality, design and creativity
of its products. In addition to its well-developed
structure, it employs a highly skilled labor force.
Also, the Turkish fabric industry has great flexibility
and ability to modernize its production,
and adapt itself to new technologies. This ability
allows the industry to reduce its reaction time
to changes in consumer demand in international
markets. Thus, the Turkish fabric industry satisfies
its customers by meeting all their needs with
the quality of its products together with its strong
service ability of quick response and on-time delivery.
All these features have enabled Turkish
fabric manufacturers and exporters to earn a
good reputation in international markets.
PRODUCTION
69
The Turkish fabric industry, which produces almost
all kinds of fabrics for apparel, home textiles,
upholstery and technical applications, has
a well-developed structure, especially in production
based on cotton, wool and man-made raw
materials.
A large amount of fabric production is based
on cotton. The fabric industry based on cotton
consists of two segments. One is composed of
integrated vertically in all stages of fabric
production, from fiber processing, spinning and
weaving to dying, printing and finishing. Many of
them also have manufacturing facilities for readymade
goods such as clothing or home textiles.
FOCUS
The sector meets its raw material needs mostly from domestic
sources. As an important world cotton grower,
Turkey ranked seventh in the world production of cotton
with around 738 thousand tons in 2015/16 term.
Although Turkey is among main cotton growers in the
world, domestic cotton does not meet the production
demand of the country. Therefore, Turkey is the fourth
largest cotton importer after Bangladesh, Vietnam and
China.
As well as the cotton textile industry, the Turkish manmade
textile sector is also a well- developed industry.
Having large capacity of synthetics in the world, Turkey
has a large production potential for synthetic fabrics
based especially on 100% polyester and polyester blends
with cotton, viscose, nylon, polyamide, wool, linen and/
or multi-blends of them.
Being the third largest mohair producer in the world,
Turkey also has a strong wool industry. The majority of
wool products meet the demand of clothing producers
and exporters.
The fabric mills are mainly concentrated in Istanbul,
Bursa, Adana, Denizli, Kahramanmaras, Izmir, Gaziantep,
Tekirdag, Kayseri and Usak. Many of the integrated mills
are located in Istanbul, Bursa, Kahramanmaras, Adana
and Gaziantep.
What is your target for 2017?
We especially want to have more distributors and representatives
in export markets. We planned some new openings
If they do not behave consciously they may harm to
their brands. They have to change their mind and cure their
production myopias.
