GREAT TO see a strategy to try
and stop opportunist arsons at
schools earmarked for demolition
around the city (see page 1).
Typically, random fires that
happen at schools (usually during
school holidays) are started
in rubbish bins, or on outdoor
furniture, and usually by groups
of teenagers roaming the area at
night looking to create mischief.
The real arsonists take the places
out with planned intent. These
guys are few and far between and
always fairly impossible to stop.
So a wise move by the Fire
Service and Ministry of Education
to get rid of rubbish bins and
equipment at unused schools,
which hopefully will mean those
marauding groups of teenagers
will simply move on.
And good luck to Mika Ravalawa
(see page 1 and 18) – he’ll
do well at the Canberra Raiders.
Young filmmaker earns high praise
