Work set to finish on university project

THE HEART of the new
engineering precinct at
Canterbury University is set to
be completed in time for the
beginning of the academic year.
The university released a series
of images online showing what
the $144 million redevelopment
of the engineering precinct will
look like.
It first announced the College
of Engineering would be redeveloped
in 2014.
The Core, at the centre of the
renewal will include spaces for
students and staff to socialise,
built-in workstations, a cafe and
flexible seating options.

and natural engineering
wing and mechanical
engineering wing will be ready
for teaching in time for the beginning
of semester 2 this year.
She said the college will
be expecting an increase in
numbers this year with full-time
student role numbers going up
by 20 per cent in the last five
years.
Last year, 3220 domestic and
international students were
enrolled in the college.
Final figures for this year is
not expected to be released until
February or March.
The completion of the precinct,
known as the “Canterbury Engineering
the Future” project is the
first major redevelopment of the
engineering department at the
university in 42 years.
A Canterbury University
spokeswoman said the project
comprises of a renewal of all
engineering facilities.
Meanwhile, students looking
to study chemical and process
engineering will now know
what the new building will
look like. Images were recently
released of the wing completed
last year.
Construction work has
been completed by Hawkins
Construction and Dominion
Constructors.
The precinct is based on the
northern side of Ilam along the
Creyke Rd frontage.
