The second key point in our concept
is that we try to make the place look and
feel relaxing, because it is the mind and
body that we are healing. Look around
the place at the interior design, the quiet
and serene atmosphere, the top class
machines. We have created a space that
feels spacious and pleasant. With clever
interior designing and use of colours,
this place gives you the feeling that you
can breathe. The ambience and feel is
comfortable and this is crucial for the
treatment. We treat the psyche; treat
the mind before the body. This is very
crucial for anyone as they work to get
back to their optimum performance.
What made you look at Physiotherapy as
a profession?
After I graduated from medical
school, I started thinking, ‘Is it medicine
that we want or lifestyle that we want?’
People’s lifestyles change but they
always want to maintain their bodies
and stay fit and healthy. I felt I could do
something to help people maintain that,
enable them to be their best. I thought
I could help my patients in a way other
than just prescribing medicines or
recommending surgery.
Once I had decided, I started my
studies and training first in Prague
where I stayed for a while. After
finishing my Master’s Degree I stayed
on to complete my training. When I
came back, I joined the government
sector, working in Salmaniya Hospital.
I opened my first clinic at Al Kindi
Hospital where I started my private
consultation. From there I expanded
into the Spa and lifestyle field. My wife
joined me in creating this place. She is
actively involved and takes care of all
the administrative side. What you see
here today is the result of 17 years of
experience. This is our baby.
Who are the kinds of patients who come
to you?
Most of the patients that come are
athletes but we also have a lot of older
people - geriatrics, and also paediatrics.
Other areas that attract a lot of attention
are women’s health, especially postnatal,
pre-natal. We also get patients
with lifestyle injuries like desk and
office work injuries - back pain, neck
pain, muscle spasm, and people with
knee injuries, knee osteoporosis. These
are the kinds of patients who come to us.
What are some of the modern methods
that you use?
We have the best equipment in
Bahrain and we also made sure that our
equipment is exclusive and not found
anywhere else. We also use cryotherapy
and ultrasound therapy together, with
minus 6-degree sub-zero temperature.
This helps reduce inflammations on
your body instantly. When you use
the regular ultrasound it takes 3 to 6
weeks to recover, but if you use it in a
minus sub-zero temperature it takes
3-5 sessions only, so less than 3 weeks.
Of course, all of these treatments are
conducted by trained experts who take
into consideration your overall physical
condition before prescribing any course
of treatment.
What is cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is the local or general
use of low temperatures to treat a variety
of problems. Cryotherapy is widely
used to relieve muscle pain, sprains
and swelling either via soft tissue
damage or postoperative swelling. It
can be a range of treatments from the
very low technology application of ice
packs or immersion in ice baths or cold
chambers with controlled temperature.
Cryosurgery is the application of
extreme cold to destroy abnormal
or diseased tissue and is used most
commonly to treat skin conditions.
We have also the contrast therapy,
where your body is put into a special
suit, which can introduce heat and cold
at the same time, so 1-minute heat, 1
minute cold. This is kind of like the old
hot bath technique for body regeneration
and rejuvenation.
What is the usual prescribed treatment
and duration?
We prescribe every day treatment
with around five sessions a week. For
spine injuries, we now also have a
special laser needle, which is introduced
inside the joints through special
applicators. This is better than using
normal laser because it’s really focused
and goes directly to the point of pain and
ensures that it reaches the tissue inside.
It doesn’t disperse and lose its effect
along the way the way like the old laser
treatments.
We have also electromagnetic
treatments, which is used for the joints
where there is erosion or degeneration.
While all these treatments are excellent I
would say that our most elite treatment,
which has given the best results, is our
manual therapy. We do manipulation,
chiropractic and osteopathy treatments,
and deep tissue release. This is the best
treatment we provide over and above all
the equipment supported treatments.
Our manual therapy superbly supports
the other treatments and speeds up the
healing process.
