LANCASTER PARK REPORT
A report on Lancaster Park
will go to city councillors next
Thursday. However, a city
council spokeswoman said no
decision about the future of
the stadium would be made at
next week’s meeting. It is not
yet known what will be in the
report. The stadium was damaged
in the February 22, 2011,
earthquake. Plans for a new central
city multi-purpose stadium
are on hold until it is decided
whether Lancaster Park could
be repaired cost-effectively.
OUTDOOR CINEMA
The Arts Centre’s restored
North Quad will be transformed
into an outdoor movie theatre
tomorrow night for the first of
the Leighs Construction Summer
Cinema series. The series
will get under way with two
Christmas movies – The Muppet
Christmas Carol at 5.30pm, followed
by Love Actually at 8pm.
PLAYGROUND UPGRADE
Scarborough Park’s playground
in Sumner will get a $150,000
upgrade. The current playground
is too old and will be
rebuilt. The city council is asking
people to visit its website
to submit their ideas on what
they want included in the new
playground.
Sharing the story
of shedding kilograms

SHRINKING VIOLET blogger
Elora Harre has returned to
Christchurch, hoping to use her
growing international success to
help people in her home town.
She lost more than 55kg
through healthy diet and exercise,
and made international
news when she talked publicly
about her battle to get 2.5kg of
excess skin surgically removed.
She has spent the last year
living in Perth, developing her
business and releasing a book
last month.
Although she said living in a
big city had helped to push her
out of her comfort zone, she
always planned to return.
“New Zealand will always be
home,” she said.
Her Shrinking Violet blog now
has more than 45,000 followers,
most from New Zealand, and
she said she wanted to be based
nearer to them.
She has also been developing
her 10-Week Challenge, which
more than 800 people have now
completed.
Until this year she developed
her businesses around a full-time
job, but she decided early in the

year to devote herself to her businesses
full-time.
That meant she had time to
write her book, The Shrinking
Violet, which details her own
journey and gives tips and recipes
for others.
It took about three months to
write, she said.
“It was hard work, but most
rewarding work is. Saying I’m a
published author at 22, for me
that’s such a huge accomplishment.
There’s not a huge amount
of money in books, so that’s not
the big draw, but having another
avenue to inspire people is so
cool.”
Her next goal was starting a
healthy cooking video series,
which she plans to start filming
in Wellington this weekend.
Since she returned last week,
she said the strangest thing was
how many people recognised her
on the street.
“It happens in the oddest
places. I got recognised in Perth
a couple of times, and in the
middle of LAX, and a few times
in Nelson, or when I’m out in
bars with friends for a night out.
I love meeting people, but I never
know what to say. I don’t think
I’ll ever get used to it.”
