Ellesmere students take stand<br />

ELLESMERE College students<br />
have been pledging their<br />
support to stand together<br />
against bullying.<br />
The school took part in the<br />
Mental Health Foundation’s<br />
nationwide Pink Shirt Day to<br />
stop bullying recently.<br />
In the week leading up to<br />
the event, the year 12 health<br />
class decided to set up their<br />
own photo booth where<br />
students gave their support<br />
against bullying and promoted<br />
the day.<br />
The photo booth<br />
complemented the “pink<br />
promotes positivity” slogan<br />
students had come up with for<br />
the day.<br />
The school’s social prefects<br />
played the film A Girl Like<br />
Her to help other students<br />
understand bullying.<br />
Throughout the day,<br />
students wore pink and<br />
purchased candyfloss to show<br />
their support for spreading<br />
positivity and taking a stand<br />
against bullying.<br />
Administration support<br />
teacher Lindsay Cook said the<br />
health class wanted students at<br />
the school to feel comfortable<br />
with themselves regardless of<br />
their age, sex, gender identity,<br />
sexual orientation, ability or<br />
cultural background.<br />
“I think it goes without<br />
saying that we all want to feel<br />
safe, valued and respected<br />
wherever we go – school, work,<br />
home or in the community.<br />
This was the aim of Pink Shirt<br />
Day,” Mr Cook said.<br />
He said Ellesmere College<br />
has zero tolerance towards<br />
bullying and the event has<br />
been helpful in achieving this<br />
goal.<br />
