The Streets for People
event on Sunday attracted
hundreds of people in an
attempt by the city council
to bring life back into the
central city
Lynn Mortlock – Great idea,
need to inject some life into the
Square on a very regular basis.
Went through town on Saturday
and was stoked to see how
busy it was, there were people
everywhere and for the first time
experienced such a rush of pride
. . . we’re healing.
Angela Woodward – If the
city council really wants people
back in the city centre, especially
on the weekends, then they need
to give free on-street car parking,
for say four hours. Current meter
rates are ridiculous for weekend
parking.
Sheree Hayward – Awesome
event. Great to see the city
buzzing with people having a
great time and discovering the
new city. It should be a regular
thing. The variety of food trucks
was fantastic. Do it again please.
Jill Sanders – Where would
we park? Too expensive in car
park buildings and not enough
parking on the street . . . Get
rid of those large encroaching
cycle lanes so the 90 per cent will
come back into the city. Buses
are great if you only need to go
to one area and have unlimited
time. The city council has made
an expensive mistake for ratepayers
and businesses are paying
the price.
Hospital staff have been
warned for using their work
phones to play music and
browse social media
Brent Hutchison – Why is
this news? Why do the management
care? They’re overworked
enough, get real leave them alone
and find more funding. The data
is in a big pool of data they all
share. So what if they watch Youtube
on the bus to work.
Hamish Middleton – As
long as they’re not searching on
YouTube ‘how to do open heart
surgery’ I’m fine with it.
Hamish Middleton – I have
it on good authority the top
searches listed in the article are
incorrect. The top were:
1) How to stretch funds when
you’re underfunded.
2) What are the best quality
tools from Mitre 10 (that could
be used in surgery)?
3) Healthcare pay rates in
Australia.
4) How to survive in poverty?
5 ) Who will Labour’s health
minister be?
Alena Joss-Pattinson –
Thank you to the anesthetist a
few weeks ago, he used his phone
for YouTube so my son could
watch it.
Sarah Winters – I often
play videos of cartoons and
Disney on my phone to kids as
a distraction, I use music and
old movies to try to calm people
with dementia, I search medication
names and rare disorders
on my phone. It is a resource like
anything else
Kat Smith – The staff at the
hospital have hard jobs and do
amazing work. If they want to
listen to some Spotify while
they care for patients, then
more power to them. As long as
patient care is the No 1 priority,
then who cares?
Oliver Neal – Honestly when
will employers wake up. Nonwork
related usage is going to
happen, regardless of how many
barriers are put in place. If you
move to a “use it in moderation
and don’t abuse it” system, then
employers can save on resources
spent monitoring it and actually
promote an environment that
staff want to work in - which will
make them more productive, not
less.
Ryan Franicevic – This illustrates
a problem with the cost
of mobile data in NZ rather than
abuse of the system. 300mb a
month is a ridiculous limit. I use
10 times that being frugal – definitely
no YouTube or Facebook
video.
Keri Herd – They are all paying
half their wage on parking
just trying to offset the cost.
Roddy Frost – Giving staff
a work phone and then dictating
how they are allowed to use
it is ridiculous. I guarantee all
the staff have a personal phone
anyway, so there is no need to
provide them with a phone but
instead provide them with a mobile
plan with unlimited data/txt.
