equirements so far. It is important to reiterate
all our changes are just to maintain this villages
club at its current level. All support to ensure we
can just maintain our position within the
community is gratefully received. Please do get
in touch with myself or any other member of the
committee if wish to help or discuss further.
new courts being laid out during September.
There was a slight hitch when the colours
didn’t match but all was put right and they are
now settling in and everyone is getting familiar
with the new bounce and speed. Why not come
along and give them a try? Andrew Brown
Wishing everyone a very merry Christmas
from all at Penn & Tylers Green Cricket Club.
The summer of 2017 is now a fading memory
and the Cricket Club has entered its annual state
of hibernation. The sight-screens have been
returned to their winter moorings at the bottom
of the field, the pitch-covers have been
dismantled and the square itself has been ‘put
the bed’ for ahead of its reawakening in the
Spring of 2018.
Club Cricket continues to evolve in the face
of competing leisure pursuits and there are
various plans for Leagues to change structures
to ensure that the game can attract players of all
ages and abilities. At P&TGCC, we are proud to
see a healthy mix of age-groups representing
our League teams and we continue to work hard
with our 80-strong Colts section in the hope that
they will graduate into the League teams when
their time comes. We are always on the lookout
for new players so if you are new to the villages
or perhaps someone who used to play cricket
and is looking for an opportunity to do so again,
we would be delighted to hear from you.
Off the field, the Club is in a strong financial
position thanks largely to fundraising events this
year that included a Quiz Night, the ‘Great
Village Cricket Tea’ and the August Bank
Holiday 6-a-side tournament. All were great
successes and all funds raised were invested
back into the ground and its facilities, increasing
practice capacity for players of all ages. We are
lucky to have so many keen volunteers that
make all this possible. Please keep an eye out
for further events taking place in 2018 and help
the Club continue to make its contribution to the
community-life of our villages.
In early November, the Club held its AGM.
One of the main topics on the agenda was the
awarding of Club honours for 2017:
1st Team Player of the Year: Raunak Biswas
2nd Team Player: Elliot Scott
Young Player: Jack Philp
Colt of the Year: Alex Woolley
Chairman’s award: Jon and Elly Cockroft
In order to continue to invest in the club and
to provide the best possible experience for local
players, young and old, we are looking for
sponsors. If you are interested in anything from
branding the League Winners’ shirts or
advertising at matches, to using the ground for a
company event or the opportunity to promote
your business to the 350-strong membership,
please get in touch with Jon Cockcroft at
