It is no good relying on UK
weather forecasts, unless online
to one's local area - as they can
change several times a day! I
have just returned from a walk,
and enjoyed the fading
sunshine with many trees still
waiting to shed their beautiful coloured leaves.
Remembrance weekend passed by with our
customary 2-minutes silence at 11am on
Saturday, November llth, held in St Margaret's
Sanctuary as rain prevented it on the Back
Common, followed by coffee afterwards.
Sunday had special services in churches. The
3pm service was held in St Margarets church,
with local dignitaries and members of Scouts,
Guides,etc., presenting their Standards. All very
important, and moving as our lives have all
been touched by memories of lost loved ones
and forbears of several generations from the
WW1 to conflicts since. We must never take
such voluntary sacrifice for granted, wishing
with all our hearts for peace in the World.
There was a grand colourful firework display
on Saturday, November 11th at our Sports
Ground. Most impressive from my back garden,
I could enjoy it without my dog to comfort.
Speaking of Barley, I had a big disappointment
when going for Induction at the Hearing Dogs
for the Deaf centre inSaunderton with high
hopes of having a replacement to look after me.
Sadly, I didn't meet the criteria for getting one
one within 18 months to 2 years which is too
long to wait in hope. Accepting disappointment
as part of life, and adjustment to giving up
driving, was also difficult. However, my life is
full of interest and good things, with so many
friends and family. I am sorting out my affairs,
and 60 years of writing, with a collection that
may have some value for posterity..

In these uncertain political times of bad news
every day, one is tempted to switch off, and not
allow political forecasting and real life crime to
get us down. It is a choice to watch fiction
serials and 'soaps', all too often hardening minds
to violence and suffering. It is a choice to hold
on to the good - charities and bravery, to what is
well in the countryside, love, humour,
generosity and good will.
As Christmas approaches, I look forward to
being with friends, relations, and loved ones
around the festive days. I send greetings to all
those I know in this community and to those I
haven't yet met, my very best wishes for peace
and harmony in your life. Pat Dancer
Dear VV Readers
I am the drivers' coordinator for Penn & Tylers
Green Village Care. We rely on voluntary drivers
to provide transport to local residents. There is
a regular turnover of volunteers but in the last
year we have had rather more leavers than
joiners so we need a few more. For those VV
readers who are not familiar with what we do,
here is a reminder...
Village Care is an organisation of volunteers
who offer a service to the residents of Penn,
Tylers Green, Penn Street and Winchmore Hill.
The service includes transport to and from
hospitals and GP surgeries etc. as well as things
like shopping and trips to social clubs.
We would really appreciate a few more drivers.
If you think you could help us, then we’d love
to hear from you.
• We have regular drivers who are listed on a rota
once every four weeks; this works well for those
who like to know their commitments
• We have occasional drivers who are called upon
if a ‘regular’ is on holiday or an additional client
requests help with transport.
Both are invaluable, so please do call for a chat.
We operate a telephone service every weekday
from 10am to 1pm to take calls from clients and
arrange transport with the drivers.
