£2million Parks Improvement
Works now complete
Works to create a modern, family friendly
environment has seen £2million invested
in a number of improvements to two main
Renfrewshire parks.
Two wheelchair-accessible swings have
been installed in Paisley’s Barshaw Park
and Renfrew’s Robertson Park to ensure
an inclusive setting for young people is
available in the popular community spaces.
Brand-new, state-of-the-art playgrounds
have also been created in each park with the
aim of improving children’s health, learning
and social inclusion by providing them with
stimulating play equipment. The first castle
structure of its kind in the world has been constructed in Robertson Park,
with the unique three-tower construction containing a rappelling wall, rung
ladder, hand over hand monkey bars, vertical climbing net and two separate
styles of rope traverse.
The investment has also seen a number
of significant upgrades made to
pathways, roads and drainage systems
to improve the park’s resistance to
inclement weather and provide a safe
space for the public to enjoy all year
round.
Councillor Cathy McEwan, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure,
Land and Environment Policy Board, said: “I’m delighted that the works
to these two parks are complete. The new play equipment, including the
wheelchair accessible swings, will provide a safe, positive environment for
our young people of all ages and abilities to enjoy for years to come.”
A further £250,000 is set to be invested in five neighbourhood parks to
enhance the visitor experience and provide a fun, exciting environment
for local residents to enjoy. Planning is underway to identify which parks
will receive part of the funding, with works expected to take place during
2018.
The Power of a Smile
13
In simple terms the work of a dentist is very much about ensuring that our
patients all have healthy smiles. Whilst that isn’t very surprising the true
power of a smile might be, so we have put together some interesting “smiley
snippets”…
Contracting the muscles in your face by smiling is known to trigger the
release of endorphins and serotonin, a neurotransmitter responsible for
the feeling of happiness.
Apparently (even if you don’t feel like it) using these muscles to smile can
trick your brain into releasing these chemicals so it can be a great way to
lift your mood.
A smile is one of the first things that other people will notice about you
so don’t forget to smile at job interviews, at work and socially to make a
good impression.
Studies have shown that we find each other more attractive when we
are smiling - smiles make us more approachable, suggest kindness,
enthusiasm and positivity.
Smiles really are contagious and make a positive impact on others. Human
beings tend to mimic each other without knowing it so you can very easily
lift someone else’s mood with a simple smile.
It is often claimed that it takes far fewer muscles to smile than to frown so
it may actually just be easier smile!
Of course, we are far more likely to smile if we have a smile to be proud of
which is why it is so important to care for your smile with a good oral health
regime (brush at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste)
and regular visits to your dentist. Many modern practices
also offer teeth whitening and other aesthetic treatments
that can also help improve your smile.
At Kilbarchan Dental Practice we are well known for our
friendliness (smiles included) so if you have any queries about
any area of dental health please do visit us. Alternatively, you
can call us on 01505 704969 or click www.kilbarchandental.
Young Carers outings to the Experience
On four nights during the week 22nd -25th January 2018 four groups of
Young Carers – 64 in all – were given a night out at The Experience at
Hillington. Each group enjoyed sessions of Electric Go-Karting and Lasershooting,
followed by an American Buffet.
The club members present were delighted to see the young people aged 8 to
18 having a great time. Many were keen to thank Rotary and the club were
delighted to show their appreciation to the young people for their caring
activities and to the Renfrewshire Young Carers group for their support.
