Assistant Director of Stagecraft Hartnett<br />

reported for Special Representative<br />

Dave Garretson. Assistant Director Hartnett<br />

reported on the successful conclusion<br />

of the negotiations between Local 60<br />

and SMG covering the Saenger Theater<br />

and the Pensacola Bay Center Arena were<br />

concluded successfully. The new contracts<br />

include improvements in wages and overtime<br />

conditions as well as the expansion<br />

of premium pay provisions. In addition<br />

to Local 60, Representative Garretson also<br />

assisted Local 635 with the Guns N’ Roses<br />

stadium concert at Wake Forest University<br />

in Winston Salem, NC. This was<br />

the first concert at the University in over<br />

thirty years. Local 635 referred over 300<br />

workers for the event and was recognized<br />

by all parties for its professionalism.<br />

Representative Stasia Savage reported<br />

on successfully concluding negotiations<br />

for a first contract between Treasurers and<br />

Ticket Sellers Local 757 and the Michigan<br />

Opera Box Office. These negotiations followed<br />

a victorious representation election.<br />

The workers are excited to become<br />

members of the <strong>IATSE</strong>. Representative<br />

Savage also reported on the filing of a representation<br />

petition on behalf of workers<br />

employed by Palace Sports and Entertainment<br />

at three venues in Detroit, MI. Prior<br />

to opening the hearing for the petition the<br />

employer notified the National Labor Relations<br />

Board that they were going out of<br />

business and that the successor taking over<br />

the venues was an employer to Local 38<br />

contracts. Representative Savage reported<br />

on negotiations with the Century II Convention<br />

Center. After reaching a tentative<br />

agreement with the Center, the city<br />

council rejected the agreement based on<br />

objections of several tenants of the venue.<br />

The Local is in the process of addressing<br />

those tenants’ concerns and resubmitting<br />

the agreement for approval. Representative<br />

Savage reported on her assignment to<br />

assist Local 731 in negotiations with the<br />

Mount Rushmore Convention Center.<br />

The agreement had not been updated for<br />

some time and the employer attempted to<br />

terminate the relationship with the Local.<br />

After discussion, negotiations are back on<br />

track to update the agreement.<br />

International Representative Peter<br />

Marley reported on his bargaining assistance<br />

to Local 33 and the Pasadena<br />

Playhouse; Wardrobe Local 784, Team<br />

San Jose and the San Francisco Ballet;<br />

Wardrobe Local 874 and the California<br />

Musical Theater; Local B18 and the San<br />

Francisco Giants; Local 415 and the University<br />

of Arizona; Local 107 and Oracle<br />

Arena. All negotiations were successfully<br />

concluded with new contracts containing<br />

significant improvements for the workers.<br />

Representative Marley also reported on<br />

assisting Local 611 in negotiations with<br />

Sunset Cultural Center. The Center announced<br />

its intention to subcontract<br />

stagehand work to a third-party vendor.<br />

The Local successfully negotiated severance<br />

payments for displaced workers and<br />

minimum wage for any subcontractors<br />

awarded the work. Representative Marley<br />

reported on Local 504’s victory in a representation<br />

election with the Musco Center.<br />

Negotiations have commenced and are<br />

progressing. Representative Marley also<br />

assisted Local 923 in a discharge grievance.<br />

The Local was victorious and the member<br />

was returned to work with backpay. Representative<br />

Marley also reported that he<br />

continues to serve as the Vice President of<br />

the L. A. County Labor Federation.<br />

Assistant Director of Stagecraft Department<br />

D. Joseph Hartnett reported<br />

on negotiations between Wardrobe Local<br />

787 and the Pittsburgh Opera. The new<br />

agreement addressed long-standing<br />

shortcomings involving the Head and Assistant<br />

Wardrobe Supervisors. They will<br />

no longer be paid on a day rate but will<br />

receive hourly compensation including<br />

overtime. Other workers achieved health<br />

contributions for the first time in addition<br />

to wage and conditions improvements.<br />

Assistant Director Hartnett also reported<br />

on negotiations between Treasurers and<br />

Ticket Sellers Local 862 and the Pittsburgh<br />

Cultural Trust. The membership<br />

unanimously ratified the new contract.<br />

Assistant Director Hartnett reported<br />

on his assistance to Local 69 in their<br />

negotiations with JSAV for work at the<br />

Cannon Center for the Performing Arts<br />

in Memphis, TN. The company attempted<br />

to replace Local 69 members with unrepresented<br />

workers. Unfair Labor Practice<br />

charges have been filed and other<br />

legal actions are being contemplated.<br />

Assistant Director Hartnett noted for the<br />

Board’s information his attendance at the<br />

AFL-CIO Organizing Institute Training<br />

and the number of Locals that have requested<br />

and received COMET Training.<br />

Co-Director of the Stagecraft Department<br />

Anthony DePaulo reported on the<br />

state of the road. The number of non-<br />

League tours continues to grow and they<br />

have sent out higher-tiered tours versus<br />

2016-2017. The Department continues its<br />

outreach program by having Representatives<br />

visit touring productions. The Department<br />

is also improving its outreach<br />

to ACT members with digital communications.<br />
