Las Vegas Favorite Returns
Kitsch: Objects or design considered to
be in poor taste because of excessive
garishness… but sometimes appreciated.
Lou Placentia, a tough, Joe Pesci-like former Marine whose
background includes “picking up body parts in Beirut” after the 1983
embassy bombing is transitioning his Flair Nightclub into a funky
Hamburger Mary’s licensed restaurant/nightclub.
The first Hamburger Mary’s opened on a shoestring budget in San
Francisco in 1972, scavenging mismatched dishes and silverware with
scrounged antiques and artwork. Their motto, “open-air bar and grill
for open minded people” attracted an eclectic clientele from the LGBTQ
and straight communities.
A mix of kooky events and celebrations added to the exciting
atmosphere. Soon the company was off and running, adding locations
coast to coast.
Last year, Placencia opened Flair as a semi-private “fun place for my
friends to come and party.” Crowds packed the place. Friends suggested
aligning with the Hamburger Mary’s culture to add more international
clientele and diversity.
Intentions Create Your World
Since the announcement on the company’s website, “response is
overwhelming” said Placencia. Inquiries came from Germany, Russia,
Austria, England, Paris - all looking to book parties.
Las Vegas was home to Hamburger Mary’s from 2002 before falling
victim to the devastating 2006 recession. Plancenia’s resurrection
of the iconic brand takes the establishment out of Vegas’ traditional
LGBTQ neighborhood and relocates it to the more family-friendly
neighborhood just east of The Strip.
Menus and events were still in the planning stages at press time,
but other Hamburger Mary’s are famous for their gently rowdy Drag
Brunches, Geeks Who Drink trivia nights, Mary-oke and Drag Queen
Bingo. Visits to other HM locations evidenced both straight and LGBTQ
crowds packing the venues for fun, food and drinks.
Placencia, who has invested sweat equity and dollars in the project
promises to continue the culture and quality Mary’s has established.
The menu will include many of Mary’s signature half-pound burgers,
fish, chicken and salads. He points with pride to the three bars serving
unique cocktails concocted of top-shelf flavored vodkas and other
spirits.
Intentions are merely wishful thinking, until
you act on them. “Every journey begins with
the first step of articulating the intention and then
becoming it.” Therefore, without intention, you can never begin or
succeed at anything.
Energy is directed by intention put into action. If you’re making
excuses or find yourself avoiding the necessary actions, then you may
consider rethinking your intention. Ask yourself, is this really what you
want?
“The acid test of real intention - puts a glow on your face and a rush
of blood in your body.” If you aren’t feeling it, don’t fight it. Instead,
follow the flow of your energy and you will most likely find your true
intention and perhaps, even your purpose.
You don’t even need to figure it all out. Every step will lead you
naturally to the next.
If this doesn’t work, then you really need to dig deeper. “If I’m
perplexed by the fact that I am constantly lost, maybe somewhere in
my head I’ve determined that being lost serves a greater purpose than
being found.”
From fetus to five years of age, much like computer hard-drives, our
brains download everything we are taught during our “humanization
process.” We buy into people’s perception of who we are. These negative
beliefs haunt us and cause continuous havoc until the end of our years
- unless we are able to identify and extricate them.
When our conscious and sub-conscious minds are opposed, it’s the
core belief or emotion that always wins. Tony Robbins states, “Most of
us have dysfunctional beliefs that we will act consistently with our view
of who we truly are, whether that view is accurate or not.”
The way to empower ourselves is to become our mind’s gate keeper.
Ask yourself:
1. Is this belief true?
2. Are you living intentionally and acting purposefully?
3. Are you setting goals with precise action plans?
Remember that everything you do (or don’t do) will always take you
somewhere. It’s up to you to make sure that it is congruent with who
and what you want to become.
