TIP #3: EMAIL MARKETING
Email marketing is extremely costeffective.
It is undoubtedly one of the
most powerful marketing tools available
to small businesses. It must be used
correctly and skilfully. It provides
predictable results and costs little or
nothing to use.
One huge benefit of email marketing is
that YOU not only build your network…
YOU own it!
You also should look at having an email sign-up
box on your website or blog. It should be easy
to read and positioned in an uncluttered area of
your site where everyone will see it.
If you are asking people to subscribe to your
newsletter offer them something of value.
It’s really important to let people know you will
never pass on their email details to anyone.
You spend time and money building your
Facebook Page to get your posts shown to
just a tiny fraction of your followers. If you
want all of your fans to see your posts you
need to pay Facebook. Facebook owns
your network! Email marketing puts you in
control and allows you to build an
increasingly valuable asset.
Here are just a few things for you to
consider, before you start using email
marketing.
I suggest that you build your own email
database. You can short cut this process
and purchase from a rather than buy one
from a list broking company. You must
ensure that the SPAM legislation
requirements are all covered by the list
provider.
The first thing to do to start building your
own list is to ask all your existing clients
and contacts if you can have their email
address if you don't already have them.
Ask if you can contact them from time to
time via email with a newsletter or special
offers or announcements. This will get you
started. So long as you ONLY contact
these people with useful information, and
make it easy for them to share your
newsletter, your list will grow… in size
and value.
I recommend you only send one email message
every 14 days or so. You don't want to become
a pest! As a direct result of not bombarding
people with emails, people looked forward to
receiving your messages. Few people will ask to
be removed from your subscriber list.
Finally, try asking your readers to forward your
emails on to their contacts. If the content is
good enough, they will – but never assume
anything, always ask them. Include a message
at the end of every newsletter, which says
something like this:
“If you have had this email forwarded to you by
a friend and you would like to receive a regular
copy, you can subscribe here and get marketing
tips direct to your inbox.” (Then link from that
text, to the newsletter sign up page on your
site.)
Let me know if you need help with any of this!
