It seems the trees and shrubs survived The blast of winter’s ice and snow As their tiny buds begin to show. The flattened grass has started greening As crocus shoots start sunward leaning And Mr. Robin is hopping about Trying to coax his worm food out. April’s well on its way with gentle showers Nourishing the earth to bring forth flowers. But we need the sun to nurture them To full petal bloom and sturdy stem. Birds are building their family nests And already feeding on insect pests. As the days warm and move along They’ll raise their voices in lilting song. Is there any doubt Spring has arrived? All things living through winter survived Below the ice and snowy strife And slowly now come back to life! T S - A 2018
