During a delightful
afternoon visit
to King Agriculture
Museum, we saw
seventy unique and
vintage tractors—all
of which still run—
along with fascinating
displays of toys,
farm tools, household
gadgets, train
sets and more.
For dinner, we
chose O’Blarney’s Irish Pub, ordering
locally made brews along with satisfying
chicken pot pie and shepherd’s pie. Seeking
the full Centralia experience, we spent
our second night in a cozy two-room
suite amid the 1920s elegance of Centralia
Square Grand Hotel. This tastefully
renovated former Elks Club also contains
a magnificent ballroom, an antique store,
Berryfields Café and the Branch Bar.
In the morning, we browsed more
shops, then lunched
on soup and sandwiches
at Dawn’s Delectables,
this time
resisting the tempting
desserts. We
burned some calories
hiking at Seminary
Hill Natural
Area, close to downtown.
The densely
wooded hilltop provides
2 miles of interconnecting
trails,
perfect for stretching
your legs.
We rewarded ourselves at Santa Lucia
Coffee Co., savoring robust drip coffee
and coconut macaroons. Sadly, it was
time to board the train home. Still, we’d
enjoyed our carefree, car-free getaway. I
would gladly do it again.
