Rehearsals ramp up
for school production
IT IS another musical year for
Lincoln High School and this
time they are performing Guys
and Dolls.
Based on the story and
characters of Damon Runyon,
with music and lyrics by Frank
Loesser, this colourful and lighthearted
comedy has many wellknown
songs, including Luck
be a Lady tonight and Sit down
you’re rocking the boat.
Set in Depression-era Times
Square, Guys and Dolls is about
a couple of big city gamblers and
the women who love them.
It tells the overlapping stories
of high-roller Sky Masterson,
who falls in love with mission
worker Sarah Brown, and lovable
rapscallion Nathan Detroit,
engaged for 14 years to Miss
Adelaide, a headliner at the Hot
Box Club.
Detroit runs a famous floating
crap game, and an ongoing
plot line involves his quest for a
safe place for the game as Miss
Adelaide continues her quest to
convince him to marry her.
Meanwhile, Sarah, mistakenly
believing that Masterson set up
an

illegal game at the mission,
tries to fight her affection for the
charismatic crapshooter.
With a total of 80 cast, band
and crew members, Guys and
Dolls is a massive undertaking
for all staff, students and parents
involved.

made more than 500 costume
pieces to date, with the help of
parents and students.
The process of casting started
at the end of last year and Sunday
and weekly rehearsals are
notching up as the show draws
nearer.
This year’s

a memorable and professional
show.
The show will run for four
nights from June 20-23 at Lincoln
High School hall starting
at 7pm.
