Wakefield Elks give<br />

out 88 scholarships<br />

The Wakefield Lodge of Elks<br />

#1276 is happy to announce that<br />

this year there were 88 scholarships,<br />

totaling $78,700 awarded<br />

to students from the Wakefield<br />

Lodge jurisdiction. Marc<br />

Alperen, a 2018 Reading High<br />

School graduate, and Derek<br />

Blanchard, a Peabody resident<br />

and a 2018 graduate of Malden<br />

Catholic High School, were each<br />

awarded two Wakefield Lodge<br />

Member Elk Scholarships.<br />

Scholarships are given in<br />

memory of past Wakefield<br />

Lodge members. The lodge also<br />

had five students who were state<br />

finalists for the Elks National<br />

Foundation Most Valuable Student<br />

Scholarship. Along with<br />

these awards there were 75 students<br />

from the Wakefield Lodge<br />

jurisdiction who received Massachusetts<br />

Elks Scholarship, Inc.<br />

Major Project awards, totaling<br />

$61,900.<br />

recipients and best of luck next<br />

Brooksby Village helps<br />

60 with scholarships<br />

This fall local students working<br />

at Brooksby Village retirement<br />

community will head to<br />

college and for some, continue<br />

on with their college/trade<br />

school education.<br />

Thanks to more than 1700<br />

people who live at Brooksby<br />

Village, 60 students from the<br />

North Shore will receive the<br />

$8,000 Brooksby Village Student<br />

Scholarship.<br />

"We have awarded scholarships<br />

to over 450 students<br />

since the program started in<br />

2002 and this was our largest<br />

class ever with 60 students,"<br />

said Elizabeth Macomber,<br />

philanthropy manager, Brooksby<br />

Village.<br />

"The students become eligible<br />

for the Brooksby Village<br />

Scholarship by completing<br />

1000 hours of work here over<br />

a consecutive two year period.<br />

The students and the residents<br />

build strong bonds of friendship.<br />

They enjoy their conversations,<br />

daily interactions<br />

and learning from each other.<br />

The scholarship program is a<br />

wonderful benefit for students<br />

working at Brooksby Village."<br />

This year an exciting announcement<br />

was made that<br />

the scholarship amount has<br />

been increased from $6,000 to<br />

$8,000 thanks to the generosity<br />

of the Brooksby Village residents.<br />
