NEW HOPE FOR PREVENTING MIGRAINES
Those suffering from migraine headaches may be interested to
know that a new medication may help them prevent future attacks.
While there are currently five FDA-approved migraine drugs on the
market, none is specifically designed to treat migraines or address the
mechanisms that cause them. On the other hand, “galcanezumab”
works to suppress the activity of calcitonin gene-related peptide
(CGRP), which is thought to play an integral role in migraines and
cluster headaches. According to a survey of more than 400 migraine
sufferers, a 120-milligram dose of galcanezumab was found to be
most effective at reducing the frequency of migraines. The FDA is
reviewing galcanezumab for approval as a once-monthly injectable.
Pharmacists are often on the front lines of care for migraine patients
seeking relief from their headaches. We invite you to call VILLAGE
PHARMACY at 781-334-3133 with your next prescription, and we’ll do
our best to have it ready before you get here. We specialize in serving
our community with fast, friendly, professional service and the
highest-quality medicines and health product. Our pharmacy is
located in the Colonial Shopping Center.
HINT: If approved, galcanezumab may be available either in the form
of an autoinjector pen or a prefilled syringe.
