Live Well at Home
with Home Care Assistance
If you are looking for a new exercise
routine and haven’t tried yoga
before, this just might be your year.
From spine-strengthening cobra poses
followed by a sudsy craft brew to
rejuvenating downward-facing dog
stretches in the company of kitties, the
list of creative, popular yoga offerings
means there’s one just right for you.
Here’s a glimpse of some of the classes
available in the Orlando area:
Hot Yoga takes place in a studio
that is heated to 102-105 degrees,
where students balance, stretch and
sweat their way through the workout.
Ocoee’s Toni Wheeler works
out at Hot on Yoga in Winter
Garden and Orlando Power
Yoga in Dr. Phillips, and she loves
them both.
“I prefer a hot studio, because it
intensifies the workout by allowing
deeper stretching as your muscles
warm up,” she said. “I find it therapeutic
and a great way to stay in
shape.”
Feline friends rejoice! Orlando
Cat Café in Clermont has the purrfect
class for you. Yoga with cats
includes one hour of yoga followed
by 30 minutes of time visiting with
the kitties in the “cat play area,”
which will leave you feeling relaxed
and rejuvenated. All of the cats who
call the café home are available for
adoption, so who knows, you might
just go home with a new furry family
member. Classes are offered the
second and fourth Saturday morning
of every month for $15, and reservations
are required. Call 352-989-
4820 or visit their Facebook page.
There’s even a yoga class for beerlovers.
Hair of the Downward
Dog yoga class takes place every
Saturday at 11 a.m. on the silo
lawn of Crooked Can Brewing
Co. in Winter Garden’s Plant Street
Market. Bring a mat and the $10
fee, which includes the class and a
13- or 16-ounce beer of your choice.
(Participants under 21 are welcome
for $5.)
If you are looking for an alternative
to Friday happy hour, consider
Orlando Brewing’s Yoga
Under the Stars, which takes
place at 7 p.m. on the third Friday of
the month. For more information, visit
www.orlandobrewing.com or check
them out on Facebook.
“Holy Yoga is very much like
traditional yoga with the breaths,
movements and poses. It’s just Christcentered,
and that faith anchors our
intentions and meditations,” said
Ocoee resident Amy Brady, a registered
Holy Yoga instructor.
If you are looking to strengthen
your body, be part of a supportive
community, and connect with the
Creator, Holy Yoga might be for
you. Popular worldwide, classes are
available in the Orlando area and
via an online monthly subscription.
Visit www.holyyoga.net to find a
class or learn more.
Looking for a good laugh?
Laughter Yoga combines unconditional
laughter with breathing
exercises designed to relax
facial muscles, strengthen abdominal
muscles, improve your energy
and mood, and increase pain tolerance.
Meet up with others at the
CommuniTeeHee Laughter Club
on Mondays at 11:30 a.m. for a
free workout at the Mayor Beardall
Senior Center, located at 800 S.
Delaney Ave. in Orlando. For more
information, search “Laughter Yoga
Orlando” on Google.
Now that the hot weather of
summer has arrived, consider trading
your yoga mat for a stand-up
paddleboard. SUP Yoga, as it is
known to devotees, offers the additional
challenge of executing balance
poses while afloat. Fresh air,
sunshine and the many peaceful
lake settings in the area turn newbies
into fans. Head to Lake Ivanhoe
