THE EDGE OF HEAVEN (18)
Due 22 February
Despite its seemingly benevolent
title, this fi lm delves into darkly
cathartic territories. A Turkish
immigrant widens the gap between
himself and his son Nejat when he
hires a prostitute to live with him
and remedy his loneliness. Unknown
to Nejat, a series of life-changing
events are waiting just around the
corner.
THE 11TH HOUR (TBC)
Due 15 February
Corrupt congressmen are getting
a break from Michael Moore as
Leonardo Di Caprio turns part
narrator, part eco-warrior for this
feature-length documentary. But
let’s be honest, Michael Moore not
making fi lms is probably far better
for the environment and everyone
concerned.
THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL (15)
Due 07 March
It’s Tudor handbags at dawn as the
Boleyn girls battle for the affections
of Henry VIII. Boasting Natalie
Portman, Scarlett Johannson and
Eric Bana in its leading roles, this
could well be the most glamorous
(and factually inaccurate) history
lesson you ever had – think if Britney
Spears started teaching sex ed. Cast
aside though, this looks set to give
traditional period romances a run
for their shillings (or Tudor tender
equivalent)!
10,000 BC (TBC)
Due 14 March
It’s not often you put the word
‘prehistoric’ in front of the word
‘epic’ and come to a half-way
watchable movie. Probably not likely
to change this trend, 10,000 BC will
be lumbering its way towards you
like an Arnold Schwarzenegger
campaign trail.
THE GAME PLAN (U)
Due 07 March
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson takes
on the end of the world in this
high-octane, low-substance action
thriller. Think guns, think explosions,
think token females and gratuitous
nudity... or think schmaltz and happy
endings. It’s actually a comedy about
an NFL quarterback who discovers
he has an 8 year old daughter. Now
you really want to see it, don’t you?
BE KIND REWIND (12A)
Due 22 February
Don’t you just hate it when your brain
becomes magnetised, ruining every
single video tape in your best mate’s
rental store thus disheartening
your most loyal elderly renter and
forcing you to re-fi lm every movie
and infringe on numerous copyrights
www.listedmagazine.com
in order to keep her happy? Yeah,
Jerry (Jack Black) hates it too.
This comedy offhandedly endorses
slapstick but remains contemporary
in its approach. One for those of you
who like your humour a little more
imaginative, methinks. Directed by
the inspired Michel Gondry.
UNTRACEABLE (15)
Due 29 February
Diane Lane is an FBI agent hunting
down a seemingly untraceable killer
in this tense thriller. Also starring
Billy Burke, Joseph Cross and a
whole load of other actors that rolled
right out of B movie town.
WANTED (TBC)
Due 14 March
Based on the Mark Miller (yeah,
I’ve not heard of him either) graphic
novels, Wanted tells the story of Wes
(James McAvoy), an interminable
nobody with no ambition and
more apathy than a student voter.
When he meets the sexy, gunwielding
Fox (Angelina Jolie), he’s
shortly inducted into the top secret
Fraternity and rapidly becomes a
defender of justice. Morgan Freeman
co-stars, but we bet he wished he
didn’t.
