NATIONALITY: GERMAN
The fi rst in a series of short
I’m studying English here and
work experience in secretarial
skills and the offi ce environment
to complement my training in
Berlin as an “EU multi-lingual
administrative executive PA.”
What do you hope to do with
this qualifi cation?
Well, I have already found a
job in Germany and after I have
fi nished over here I will go to
work for the German foreign
offi ce in Berlin. I will be part of
WHY DON’T YOU NIP ON IN?
Charminster’s cosmopolitan array of international restaurants, cafes and
bars has been further enhanced by a new Japanese venue, colourfully
named the Nippon Inn. Husband and wife team Steve and Yoko Exley
said “Nippon Inn, as far as we know, is Bournemouth’s fi rst ‘izakaya’ or
Japanese pub. We hope customers will want to return regularly rather
than just on special occasions”. The venue is bound to be a hit with
Bournemouth’s growing Japanese community but it should also strike a
chord with the international student population and the wider community
looking for an alternative night out. When I went along myself, the
place was buzzing, there seemed to be a really friendly atmosphere and
the food (yakitori chicken, noodle soup, pork on rice, Japanese curry,
tempura) and drinks (Asahi beer on tap, Kirin, Sapporo, sake and shochu)
brought back some happy memories of the times I have spent in Japan.
STUDENT NEWS – READ ALL ABOUT IT!
A new web portal aimed at international students studying in the
Bournemouth and Poole areas has been launched, with the aim of
providing students with advice, news, views, reviews and a fl edgling
area-wide student discount scheme. The site, which is open to all
international students (whether they are studying at Bournemouth
University, the College, the Arts Institute or one of the many British
Council-accredited language schools in the area), also aims to be a place
where international students can show off their work and stay in touch
with friends that they have made while studying in the UK. Teachers can
also submit items for publication and use the site as a free resource.
