MS SERENITY
Day 1: London – Frankfurt
We travel by rail to Frankfurt and check into our
hotel.
Day 2: Frankfurt – Prague
This morning we take the train to Prague. On arrival
in Prague we check into our hotel, our base for the
next two nights.
Day 3: Prague
There are few cities in Europe that match Prague,
which boasts some 600 years of beautifully
preserved architecture. Today we enjoy a city
tour of all the main sights and attractions that
are on offer. After the tour, why not venture into
the historic centre and you will find small plaques
which point out key landmarks on a circular route
of approximately 5 miles. There’s also Prague Castle
– the largest ancient castle in Europe, the beautiful
Spanish Synagogue, Wallenstein Gardens which
offer free entrance, and so much more.
Day 4: Prague – Budapest
This morning we travel by rail to Budapest. We
arrive later in the day for a relaxing evening.
Day 5: Budapest
We start the day with a guided tour of one of the
most beautiful cities in the world with an extensive
area recognised as a world heritage site. You are
then free to explore both sides of Hungary’s capital
which is divided by the meandering Danube –
traditional Buda and the more cosmopolitan Pest.
Most of the famous sites are concentrated around
Castle Hill on the Buda side, in downtown Pest and
along the riverside walkways. Highlights include the
Royal Palace, Fishermen’s Bastion, the Parliament
building, St Stephen’s Basilica, Heroes’ Square,
Chain Bridge, and many more before we board the
MS Serenity this afternoon and settle onboard for
a relaxing evening.
Day 6: Budapest
Enjoy a morning in Budapest or join our optional
afternoon excursion which takes you through the
sweeping plains of Hungary to Lajosmizse. Here we
visit a traditional stud farm and enjoy a tour of the
grounds in a horse-drawn carriage, before watching
a spectacular live Puszta horse show. We set sail in
the late afternoon and cruise towards Bratislava.
Day 7: Bratislava
Wake up in Bratislava, the historic capital of Slovakia
which is dominated by its castle. There’s also the
unique suspension bridge, another key landmark,
announced as the building of the century when
it opened in 1972. Join our optional walking tour
to take in the main sights and experience the rich
culture in and around the old town before our ship
cruises towards Vienna.
Day 8: Vienna
We spend a full day experiencing the delights of
Vienna, where grand palaces, baroque castles,
magnificent squares and striking monuments are just
some of many highlights. In the morning you can
join our optional city tour and in the afternoon we
have an optional excursion to Schönbrunn Palace,
which takes you on a journey through time as we
explore some of the 1,441 rooms. We cast off later
this evening.
Day 9: Melk
Later this morning we arrive in the Austrian town
of Melk, which is filled with cobbled streets and
attractive buildings. It is also overlooked by one
of the most splendid monastic houses in Austria –
the Benedictine Abbey, which you can visit on our
optional excursion. We continue cruising upriver
towards Passau.
Day 10: Passau – Munich
This morning we bid farewell to our captain and his
crew and travel by train to Munich for an overnight
stay.
Day 11: Munich – UK
We set off this morning by rail for our return
journey to the UK.
