Day 1: UK – Munich (Rail)
We travel by rail to our overnight hotel.
Day 2: Munich – Vienna (Rail) / UK – Vienna (Air)
After breakfast we travel by train and board the MS
Serenity in Vienna, the home of Mozart, Beethoven
and Sigmund Freud. The city is known for its
Habsburgs’ summer residence Schönbrunn palace.
Those travelling by air join today.
Day 3: Vienna
We spend a full day experiencing the delights of
Vienna. Grand palaces, baroque castles, magnificent
squares and striking monuments are just some of
the key features of this beautiful city, which is a
world heritage site. In the morning you can join our
optional city tour and in the afternoon we have an
optional excursion to Schönbrunn Palace, which
takes you on a journey through time as we explore
some of the 1,441 rooms. We set sail and cruise
towards Linz this evening.
Day 4: Linz – Melk
An afternoon arrival in Linz allows us the afternoon
to explore the city. The must see-sights; the old
town has charming cobbled streets and centuries of
architecture and on the other side of the river is a
modern affair. This evening we set sail to Melk.
Day 5: Melk – Bratislava
Melk is a small town which lies in the beautiful
Wachau valley. Here you can join our optional
excursion visiting the Benedictine Abbey. This is one
of the most famous monastic houses in Austria and
has been occupied by monks for over 900 years.
After lunch watch the scenery glide by as we cruise
to Bratislava.
Day 6: Bratislava – Budapest
We wake up this morning in Bratislava, the capital of
Slovakia. This historic city is dominated by its castle,
set high above the Danube and once a frontier
post of the Roman empire. There’s also the unique
suspension bridge, another key landmark which was
announced as the building of the century when
it opened in 1972. Join our optional excursion by
miniature train to Bratislava castle with free time to
explore the castle and the old town. We cruise to
Budapest this afternoon.
Day 7: Budapest
Today we have a full day in Budapest, one of the
most beautiful cities in the world. Here you can
explore both sides of Hungary’s capital – traditional
Buda and the more cosmopolitan Pest. Start
the day by joining our optional city tour which
introduces you to the highlights and helps you
get your bearings in the city known as the ‘pearl
of the Danube’. After lunch you can join our
second optional excursion of the day, which takes
you through the sweeping plains of Hungary to
Lajosmizse. Here we visit a traditional stud farm
and enjoy a tour of the grounds in a horse-drawn
carriage, before watching a spectacular live Puszta
horse show.
Day 8: Esztergom
We arrive early this morning in Esztergom, one of
the oldest towns in Hungary. Here you can join our
optional excursion to Esztergom Basillica, the third
largest church in Europe. Enjoy another relaxing
afternoon cruising to Vienna.
Day 9: Vienna – Frankfurt (Rail) / UK (Air)
This morning we bid farewell to our captain and
crew and disembark our ship. Passengers traveller by
air will be transferred to the airport for the return
flight. Passengers traveller by rail travel to Frankfurt,
where we check into our overnight hotel.
Day 10: Frankfurt – UK (Rail)
After breakfast we continue our return journey
back to the UK.
