Rainforest silhouette
DURATION

TASK
Create a rainforest silhouette picture.
Materials
✓✓ pictures or photographs of rainforest
leaves and trees
✓✓ long sheet of purple paper
approximately 22 cm x 52 cm
(or a sheet of cartridge paper cut to
size and painted purple)
✓✓ lead pencils
LESSON 1
1. Look at pictures and discuss the
features of rainforest trees, vines and
plants. In particular, identify trees and
leaves with interesting shapes.
2. The students use lead pencil to draw a
scene of trees, vines and large foliage
leaves on the purple paper.
3. Once satisfied with their work, the
students trace over it using black
permanent marker and fill in the outline
to make a rainforest silhouette. When
colouring large areas black, use strokes
in one direction only.

Lesson 2
1. Draw a medium-sized circle on the white
paper to represent the sun. Colour the
bottom half yellow and the top half
orange, blending the two colours in the
middle.
2. Cut out and glue the sun onto the
rainforest picture.
