The Shipyards in
KARADENİZ EREĞLİ

that comprises the area from
the bosporus to Sinop, as well
as the Black sea’s largest port,
draws attention with its shipyards
located in Karadeniz Ereğli. The
important thing is to integrate this
potential into a logistics centre”.
DWT although the hull and 50%
of the equipment was completed,

5. Ustamehmetoğlu Ship
Industry Shipyard
It launched two fishing boats in
September and October, the latter
on October 5. Another fishing
boat is under construction. It has
approximately 30 employees.

1. Azim Otel Turizm
Denizcilik Metal İnş. San.
Tic. Ltd. Şti. Shipyard
Because it has not received any
new orders since exporting two
tugboats to the Netherlands in
2009, it tries to sustain the business
and get new orders through its own
means. It has 11 employees.
2. Ereğli Ship Industry
Shipyard
In the past, 16 chemical tankers
were manufactured in the range
of 5300 DWT to 250 DWT and
more than 30 tugboats of 18-36
meters. At the moment, pillars for
one chemical tanker of 8400 DWT
have already been cut, waiting for
building. As of December 2015,
building of 6 tugboats of 25.5m is
ongoing. During 2007 and 2008,
there were 5,000 workers in the
shipyard, now only employs 161
employees, including 36 its own
and 125 subcontracted workers.
3. Med-Yılmaz Ship
Industry Shipyard
Deliveries of Iraq’s order, 20
aluminium steel boats of 7.25
meters, and Directorate General
of Coastal Safety’s order, 4 coastal
safety boats of 18 meters, have been
made. Besides manufacturing and
maintenance of fishing boats, the
construction of one fishing boat of
17 m and 2 vehicular ferries of 36
meters in Malatya province have
been completed.
With its 121 employees, the
shipyard has also undertaken
under sub-contracting the
construction of the 4 tugboats in
the Ereğli Ship Industry Shipyard.
With the rest of the 9 employees,
it is involved in construction of
a 22-meter fishing boat in the
existing shipyard.
4. Madenci Ship Industry
Shipyard
It has ceased its activities since the
order was cancelled by shipowner
of 2 dry cargo vessels of 9,750
6. USMED Ship Industry
Tic. A.Ş. Shipyard
In the past years, 4 chemical
tankers were built in the range
of 7400 DWT - 8400 DWT in
this shipyard. The latest chemical
tanker of 8400 DWT was launched
in May 2011, and there is no
current order at the moment. It
has suspended its activities.
7. UMO Ship Industry
Shipyard
After building new passenger
boats, it moved its activities to the
former shipyard Ustamehmetoğlu
Shipyard due to the expiry of the
existing temporary permit.
8. Demir Gemi Tersanesi
San. ve Tic. Ltd. Şti.
On 07.14.2014, it obtained the
permit of partial operation.
Currently it is building one coaster
of 3,000 gross tons, 85 meters long
with the cargo capacity of 5,000
for the Turkish Star Project in the
scope of the renewal of the Turkish
Maritime Trade Coaster Fleet.
9. Gündoğdu Shipyard
(Karasu)
It ceased its operations and
declared bankruptcy in 2011.
10. Cansu Gemi
Shipyard
(Zonguldak)
It has ceased its activities.
