In September, the chapter hosted a CE event, “Nursing Advocacy – Your Voice Counts!” facilitated by KNA
Lobbyist Sheila Schuster. She focused on describing the basic legislative process, listing healthcare related
bills in the General Assembly session and effective methods by which nurses can advocate for patients and
the nursing profession.
The chapter partnered with Morehead State University’s Student Nurses Association for a winter coat drive
that brought in more than 250 coats that were distributed within the chapter’s geographic reach. Another
community health focus for the chapter is to provide Basic Life Support to businesses and churches for free.
The chapter regularly uses social media, word-of-mouth, broadcast coverage, community involvement and
partnerships to increase membership. To encourage more meeting participation, the chapter has discussed
adding phone and or video conferencing.
