ALEKS PAUNOVIC 

Aleks Paunovic is not a stereotypical tough 

guy, as he is a refreshing anomaly as an 

actor and a man. He may have started 

in a rock band and a champion boxer, 

but he has since played very diverse and 

well-rounded roles in film and TV. This 

self-proclaimed mama’s boy is a huge fan of 

musicals and a vocal champion for anti-bullying. 

You are Canadian of Serbian and 

Croatian descent and have achieved the 

“American Dream.” How do you reflect 

on your journey so far? 

I guess, the best way to answer this is to 

be okay with failing, and still pursue your 

dreams. There are people in TV and film 

that impact me through this little box you 

watch things on. One in particular being 

Muhammad Ali. Watching not only his 

fights, but his integrity and the way he presented 

himself really affected the way I pursued 

my acting career. The universe works

bullied as a child. Can you talk about 

in weird ways. To think that I have that 

that for teenagers who might be going 

same effect on people who have seen me on

Before your illustrious film and TV 

career, you were a boxer and a musician. 

Is being a working actor the ultimate 

pinnacle for you? 

It is, but it’s one of those things where 

you look at the greener grass on the other 

side. I think about being a heavy weight 

champion or getting the chance to play at 

Wembley Stadium with my band, and it’s 

interesting to think about where my life 

would be if either of those were the ultimate 

pinnacle. On this side on the fence though, 

I’ve had the opportunity to play and create 

these different roles and stories lines, and 

that wouldn’t have happened if those other 

things were the pinnacle. I love where I am, 

and I love telling stories.

it made me vividly relive a time 

when my brother was brutally 

attacked by a pack of dogs. To

The first thing a gay person ever learns is "it gets 

better", The second is that it doesn't get better 

on its own. The next thing is that yelling Fuck 

for some can sound as bad as FIRE in a theater. 

When some of us grew up "getting better" was 

significantly different than it is today. I think 

even the younger generation might give a nod to 

our horror stories of the past. To be sure, its not 

that great today either but it clearly got better. 

It got better because we did better things. Every 

story you ever heard. Every gay kiss you ever 

gave or took. Every protest or march you held or 

attended, every hand you held, or let go. Are all 

part of our big gay story and because of you it got 

better! 

Without distinction if you cheered from the 

side lines or marched the parade. You owe it 

to your story to see at least one film. Because 

you will be making it better, for the young and 

future children. Because these stories are not just 

impacting the world you live in, they are also 

going to make the world others will live in.

And the LGBT Veterans Memorial at the Desert 

Memorial Park in Cathedral City as the official 

state LGBT veterans memorial. Making it the 

nation’s first LGBT veterans memorial. These are 

positive stories that will guide our future.

look at all of them from far enough away, they 

encapsulate one big Fucking story! 7.5+ billion 

stories on earth and that has nearly tripled since

ARTISTS AND CLIMATE CHANGE

AdamsArtExpose’ ART 

The Desert Daily Guide featured the 

Climate Reality Project last week. The 

reality is that the climate is changing, 

and the change has been more rapid 

than expected. Thanks to Governor 

Jerry Brown and others throughout the 

world who recognize that the climate of 

the earth determines the continuation 

of life as we know it. 

Artist around the world have joined 

in the cause to save the environment 

and the earth. Olafur Eliasson, a 

Danish- Icelandic artist, says," Art 

can offer people direct experiences of 

phenomena which can be more effective 

than just reading an explanation". One 

example directed by Eliasson, shown 

in this article, is a project that involved 

bringing 12 huge blocks of ice from 

Greenland which were placed in the 

Place du Pantheon in Paris, France. 

The idea was to allow people to interact 

with the ice while they watched over 

a period of days as it evaporated into 

water. This provided a direct experience 

to understand that climate change

to demonstrate climate change and the 

devastating effects it will have on the 

earth we live on. 

For artists, activists, and others who 

want to participate directly in bringing 

more awareness to climate change 

the Six Tools Project recommends 

the following tools to use in creating 

awareness: 1. SYMBOLS: show climate 

changes you can't see 2. METAPHORS: 

Make things stick 3. WITNESS: Help 

the viewer understand what you see 

4. CULTURE CHANGE: What will

I don’t think size has anything to do with 

it. It’s more of an emotional struggle, not 

physical one. When you are getting bullied 

your brain immediately goes to “What did 

I do wrong?” We tell kids to stick up for 

themselves, but when you are at such a 

developmental age it becomes hard to think 

past that fast twitch of asking what you did 

wrong to think of anything else. 

On the other side, the bully is also going 

through something, and the only way he 

knows how to deal with it, and deal with 

that pain, is to inflict pain on other. 

I was on both, I am a big guy and I would 

tease and joke with people, and that would 

intimidate people even though my intention 

was never to hurt anybody. I had strength 

over some people both physically and 

mentally and I didn’t realize this until the 

tables were turned, but it’s vulnerable not 

having that power over someone.

walked by, stopped, looked back, and started

straight up to me and says “Dude,I loved 

you in iZombie.” I replied with “Dude, don’t 

come at me like that,” and we laughed it 

off. I love when fans want to chat, get a pic, 

and I love doing it for them. It still takes 

some getting used to. 

I am a huge advocate for Anti-bullying 

Campaigns to focus on the bully as well, 

because if we help the bully open up and 

realize that there are safe places to turn 

to, there won’t be these bullying situations 

anymore. Every time I have done this it’s 

been life changing for them and for me. 

Just to let a kid know that it’s okay to 

express your feelings is incredible. 

What’s new on your play list? 

I love Spotify, and I love the ability to click 

onto someone else’s playlist. They’ve been 

killing it with “Chill Dinner Music”. It has 

amazing artists with a chill vibe that’s perfect 

for a nice drink. I love any Foo Fighters 

playlist. Any 80’s or 90’s rock alternative 

from Iron Maiden to Nirvana, or Song 

Garden. 

What would be a surprising fact about 

you that we may not know? 

If there was an Olympic sport for being a 

mama’s boys I would win gold medalist. 

What is your favorite cause or charity? 

Red Cross Anti-bullying Campaign. 

What project(s) do you have coming up? 

Currently I am working on a TV series 

called Snowpiercer, and I am getting ready 

to promote season 3 of Van Helsing. I’m 

also a producer and lead on a drama called 

“Under the Rock” which is still in early 

development, along with a reality TV show 

“Music Rescue” which I’ll be the director 

and producer of.

For some strange reason, it seems as if the 

older ones are starting lots of drama, then back 

themselves away from it or know how to word 

shade and basically talk shit and try to cover it 

up. 

This has happened to me quite a few times. 

Now I won't name any names on here, but it 

will surface eventually. I understand that at 

a point in time careers here in Palm Springs, 

we're booming. But for some it quickly died 

down because of the lack professionalism 

and shadiness. We can only say it so many 

times, that a cheetah can't change it spots. But 

the reality is a whole lot of more new queens 

working their asses off to be amazing, be seen, 

and work places they can ever imagine. At my 

age I live for it and push them to be amazing. 

To work hard and paint for the gods, but when 

you run into some older queens and they’re 

so negative and don't want you to do your 

best and they always have something nasty or 

negative to say about you or try to read you.

Keep your mouth closed and don't respond to 

the negativity. Just smile and wave of course, 

when the time is right, bring it up but in the 

meantime continue working hard and getting 

them bookings and keep supporting everyone 

like you do so.

and will bite them back when least expected” I 

live by these words. Mayhem Miller once told 

me “Girl, people are talking about you. That's a 

good thing. Keep quiet and don't say anything 

just listen because when it comes down to it, 

you’re the one working and not them”. I take 

these words and run with them. Whenever 

things come up and I want to lash out, I don't 

listen, and I let karma do its thing. So, if you’re 

a seasoned campy queen and don't know what 

to say, please keep it to yourself. Maybe you 

don't hear the way it's coming out but deep 

down inside, you know your being a shady 

bitch because you can't be happy for no one 

else. This should be an eye opener for anyone

What a week! 

I say that every week because I never believe 

the previous week can be topped, but The D 

seems to do it, week after week. 

We started the time with the Campaign 

Manager pleading guilty and promising to 

cooperate with the Special Counsel (read – 

Don Jr and Jared, get ready for stripes and 

a small room). The D has even gone so far 

as to order the Justice Dept and the FBI to 

release classified documents on the Russian 

investigation WHILE the investigation is 

ongoing! 

It does keep appearing that he is welcoming 

a charge of conspiracy and obstruction of 

justice. 

Bob Woodward’s book continues to make 

headlines sharing some amazing stories about 

the dysfunction in the White House and 

Amarosa revealed more tapes of her time 

in the Executive Mansion. Stormy Daniels 

announced she is coming out with a book 

(Melania get the divorce lawyer on retainer). 

Supreme Court nominee, Kavanaugh, turns 

out to be soul mates with Clarence Thomas. 

One can only imagine what the big screen 

at the Justice lunch room will be showing. 

A few days ago, comments were made that 

Kavanaugh would be confirmed by the end of 

the month, now speculation is when will he 

withdraw his nomination. The woman that 

is claiming sexual assault is now scheduled to 

testify before Congress next week.

upcoming visit to the United Nations, but no 

announcement seems to be forthcoming. I 

am more interested in the reaction by China 

of the ADDITIONAL $200B in new tariffs 

The D has imposed on Chinese goods. US 

Retailers are already having a fit! According

Retail Federation estimated a 10 percent tariff 

would cost consumers an additional $2.1B 

on purchases of furniture and $578.2M on 

purchase of travel goods alone. Raising the 

duty to 25% would increase consumer costs to 

$4.6B on furniture and $1.2B on travel goods.

the folks in Arkansas and Alabama are happy 

campers now. 

I estimate, short of a war, a recession will 

begin in mid-2019 and continue on until early 

2021. The D seems oblivious to the dangers 

of his actions or he understands but as long as 

his “brand” is doing well (hotels, resorts, etc.) 

he doesn’t care. 

49 days left until the election. Absentee 

ballots go out in 19 days and voting will 

begin. There is no time to be complacent. It 

is EVERYONE’s responsibility to take action 

and say ENOUGH! NO MORE!
