‘Best Route Ever’ for
2018 Bog Stomp: Over
70 runners registered for the Clyde Muirshiel hill and
trail run at Greenock Cut Visitor Centre and had an
amazing morning exploring the Inverclyde Hills!
The date has just been announced for 2019, put 1st
September in your diary today.
Classic Car Show: On Sunday 21st October get
ready to welcome some relics of the automotive
world to the shores of Castle Semple Loch as part of
our annual show. This year supporting St Vincent’s
Hospice. FREE entry and a great family day out, not
to be missed!
October Junior Multi-Activity Weeks: The last
chance for your 10-15yr olds to try a plethora of
activities for a full week of not-at-school fun! 5 full

Castle Semple now an HSBC UK Disability Hub:
The Centre is now one of two official paracycling hubs
in Scotland. Along with partners Scottish Cycling and
local club Ride63 a whole host of opportunities to try
out handcycles and hand trikes are available. £3 a
go, book online through British Cycling website, links
on our website. Next events 10th & 24th October.
Clyde Muirshiel Conservation Volunteers:
Greenock Cut’s group meet 10.30am – 2.30pm every
Saturday and Castle Semple on Thursdays 12.30pm
– 3.30pm with the odd full day session. See the full

Muirshiel Country Park’s conservation needs you
to help us with the woodland management for

Ride 63 Community Cycle Club: Weekly ‘hares’ &
‘tortoises’ rides on Tuesday evenings, there a few
evenings left for this year…. look on our facebook

Tag-n-Track Project update
It’s time for the monthly roundup from the Tag-n-Track
Ranger Hannah Riley. TnT is funded by Heritage
Lottery Fund, Greater Renfrewshire and Inverclyde
LEADER and Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park.
Project News
With the weather starting
to take a colder turn many
of our gulls have started
to head off on their winter
migration. We have had
three gulls leave this month, Stuart, Luna and Kingpin.
Last year Stuart spent time in Ireland before heading
off to Portugal and then to Morocco and this year he
looks to be doing the same as he is back in Ireland
in the same area near Waterford. We then had Luna
leave and make a much longer journey. On the 3rd
of September she flew straight from Greenock to the
Northern coast of Spain in just under 24 hours. Luna
is the only female gull to have been caught and it will
be interesting to watch her behaviour over the next few
months. Lastly Kingpin left on the 7th of September
and he flew down to Cornwall
before heading to France and
by the 11th he had travelled into
Spain and is currently in Portugal
just south of Porto. While Kingpin
was in Spain he stopped off for a
couple of hours in a place called
A Coruña. While he was there
he was spotted by a bird watcher
called Antonio Lopez who took a
photo of him which was then sent
on to the Tag-n-Track team. Quite
incredible considering he was only
there for a short time.
Event News
Come along to Muirshiel Visitor Centre for a day of bird
ringing on Saturday 6th of October. It is a chance to
see our native wild woodland birds up close. Please
pop in and say hello anytime between 11am-3.30pm.
Also, on Sunday 21st of October ‘What’s that bird?’
will be held at Castle Semple where you can come
along and ask questions about local wildlife, pop
along anytime between 1pm - 3pm.
Gull adoptions: Looking for that something different
or are you interested in supporting our gull project?
Gull adoption packs are £25, include sponsorship of
one of the gulls, an adoption certifi cate, factsheet,
monthly email updates, your name on our website
and a fluffy gull to call your own. Look for details on
our website or email us to find out more.
Volunteer with TnT: One of the project’s aims is to train
volunteers in the use of our camera traps for 3 month
periods. All training will be provided and it is something that
only requires a couple of hours a week to collect and go
through the footage. Fancy it? Get in touch.
