Castle Semple Sailing Club
Cadet Regatta - 9 September
The cadets had a great morning out
on the water and had their first taste
of pursuit racing. They all seemed
to enjoy it and experienced all four
seasons during the morning. I believe
there were a couple of capsize
incidents but on the whole a lot of
smiley faces.
Congratulations to :
!st: Emily and Tony. (RS Feva)
2nd Rebecca and Sarah (RS Feva)
3rd Euan Hill (Pico)
The Cadets have been very active during the summer taking part in the
Scottish RYA trophy event at Loch Tummel and also the “Viking Hiking”
Series at Largs have entered the series at Helensburgh at the end of
September.
Ian Brown Cup. - 16 September
After the carnage of the previous Sunday when an unexpected front came
through we were hoping to for good day’s sailing, but the wind had other
ideas and there were some strong gusts coming down the loch meaning not
everyone had a good day...
Race 1 saw 8 starters including 2 cadets (Tony FitzGerald and Yuan Wong)
in the feva, another 2 (Emily Shearer and Callum Watson) on the Dart with
Mark, and Euan Hill was having his first taste of a Vago with Tom. I have to
say that they fared somewhat better than Jon and I in his Vago....3 capsizes
in the fi rst race, but we weren’t the only ones the MV2 was over once, and
I think the Club Vision was over a couple of times with Heather performing
a spectacular summersault out the back of the boat!
Race 2 saw Heather again adrift from her boat. Peter Collings who had
been doing very well in the RS200, suffered an unfortunate wind shift at
a crucial time and his boat was in a collision with the MV2 damaging the
RS200 so that was them out.
The wind did ease off a bit after lunch but we were now down to five boats.
Arthur Logan had been out in the safety boat in the morning waiting the
arrival of his trusty crew, Iain. Once out on the water Arthur, in a GP14
wasn’t going to be beaten by any old Vago or Vision. There were some
close encounters in each of the 3 afternoon races, the final results were:
1st place - i Angus Winchester - Vortex
2nd place - Arthur Logan and Iain Hardy - GP14
3rd place- Brian Young and Alan Falconer (RS Vision)
Best enterainment: Heather Evans.
How to Keep Motivated!
Even if intentions are good, efforts can be lacklustre, and you could be
struggling for motivation. It happens to us all. Here are some tips to keep
your workouts fresh and motivation levels high.
1. Set small achievable goals. Consistently achieving smaller more
achievable goals keep you motivated and seeing results and the bigger
goals then fall into place.
2. Brave a new exercise routine. Don’t stick to the same stuff all the time as
it can get boring and relentless. Challenge yourself to something different
and it can provide a welcome change to your normal fitness routine.
3. Seek support. Sometimes the benefits of having a training partner or
personal trainer can’t be overstated. A partner will push you harder and
keep you on track when you start flagging. Having someone to talk to
makes the workouts more enjoyable too.
4. Take a challenge. If you are serious about getting into shape, you need
an incentive; a reason to push yourself harder. Find something that excites
you and enter it, so you have something to work towards.
5. Surround yourself with positive people. Negative people can drag you
down and not support the decisions you are making. This causes you to
lose sight of your goals. Make sure your closest friends and family support
you in the changes you are making to your lifestyle. Peer pressure is a
powerful thing.
6. Record your progress. Because you see yourself everyday it can be
difficult to see the incremental improvements you are making. Track your
weight and measurements, track your strength and take pictures. When
you look back you can be pleasantly surprised at how far you have come.
Motivation can drop in everyone – even some of the best athletes! Don’t
think you are the only one.
