Cllr Derek Bibby
Roads: The exclusion of Howwood village from this years road
resurfacing programme was thrown into sharp focus by a recent
walkabout arranged by the community council, and attended
by a senior offi cer from Renfrewshire Council, and local elected
members.
If it needed to be confi rmed, Midton Road, Bowfi eld Road, and
Main Road require repair and resurfacing work. There are
however a number of other roads among many needing attention including
Elliston Road, Elliston Place, Station Avenue, and Hill Road.
On separate recent visits to the village, I and constituents found problems with
sunken and blocked drains in Hillfoot Drive, at the rear of Kilnknowe Cottages,
and Elliston Place. It has been impressed on the Council that these issues need
action and Howwood needs a fair deal.
Steeple Hall: Having requested refurbishing work to be undertaken on the
Steeple Hall Kilbarchan, I was shocked and angered to receive a reply from
Renfrewshire Council that there is no funding available, despite there being a
£370,000 Village Investment fund, and a £500,000 Heritage fund agreed by the
council earlier this year. If an iconic location such as Kilbarchan Steeple cannot
be seen as a priority, it begs the question of where the funding is going. I will
continue to make the case for this work to be done.
Planning: The most recent meeting of the councils Housing and Planning Board
approved the planning application from Turnberry Homes for a residential
development at the former Struthers site in Church Street Lochwinnoch. This
will be broadly welcomed by the community, and the developers have responded
positively to the issues and concerns raised by villagers in the consideration of
the application.
Street Lighting: I have been advised that the time clocks on street lighting
columns in various locations in Lochwinnoch, Howwood, and Kilbarchan require
attention in order that the lights come on at the appropriate time. As the days
shorten this is obviously an important issue, and the council has promised a
programme of work to change the times on the columns before the clocks go
back at the end of October.
Surgeries: My advice surgeries are on the fi rst Saturday of every month except
January and July, at 9am in the McKillop Institute Lochwinnoch, 10am in
Howwood Village Hall, 11am in the Steeple Hall Kilbarchan, and 12.30pm in
Johnstone Town Hall. Meantime please contact me at any time at cllr.derek.
