Kilmacolm Tennis Club
The Advertizer
It has been a fantastic season so far at Kilmacolm
Tennis Club with members of all ages playing in the
warm summer weather. Younger members enjoyed a
full programme of Easter and summer camps. Adults
turned their hand to various tennis coaching clinics to
improve their game, social tennis twice a week and a
busy schedule of team tennis competing in the West
of Scotland leagues.
A highlight of our busy calendar is the Club
Championships which took place on Saturday 1st
September. Reflecting the club membership, the
championships were very much a family affair. The
Reids who are great supporters of the club competed
in no less than 4 of the trophies. Entries from as
young as 14 to our senior ladies and gents competed on finals day after
some highly competitive early rounds.
15 year old Connie Reid (pictured above) was our ladies singles winner
taking the title after two highly competitive sets against defending champion
Patricia Watt. Connie then joined mum Liz to take the ladies doubles title
beating Gillian Finch and 15 year old Maddie Brooksbank. Sian Nicol and
Rosemary Nott won the ladies senior doubles in a close 3 setter against
Trish Brown.
20 year old Ali Robertson a regular contender on Championship Day fought
hard against the experienced Roy Fraser and edge past in a 3rd set decider
to take the singles trophy.
Our younger players featured yet again in the Mens doubles with Fraser and
Joseph Reid taking on Ali Robertson and Graham Marr but the Reid’s could
not quite snatch the trophy from the more experienced doubles pairing and
the experience of Graham Marr at the net.
Father Steve joined Ken McFarlane in the Mens senior doubles against
veterans Joe O’Donnell and Sandy Wilson (pictured below) who took the
trophy.
Ali then teamed up with partner Marian Wardell and despite Ali competing
in his third match of the day, Gillian Finch and partner Roy Fraser (pictured
on the right) fought hard but couldn’t quite manage to edge past Ali and
Marian - a formidable pairing.
But the season is not over and we have a great offer… from now until
the end of March families can play for just £25.00 per month, adults for
£12.50 per month and juniors and students for just £1 per week! You will
get the benefit of a free lesson with Coach Melissa and our tennis coordinator
Liz Reid will be in touch to
see how we can help to involve you
in club activities and ensure you have
someone to hit with.
We run a full programme right through
the autumn and winter on our 3 high
quality floodlight courts. Tennis clinics
for all abilities, cardio tennis and
Superleague and Coach Melissa is on
hand for one-to-one lessons. Why not
come along to our annual ceilidh on
Saturday November 10th at the golf
club and get to meet other members.
Tickets just £20.
