Kilmacolm Community Council
Police: PC Jamieson reported that in the months of July and August seven crimes
in the Kilmacolm and Quarriers Village area had been recorded. These crimes had
included a hit and run road traffi c offence, a sexual assault, an act of vandalism,
a theft of a tractor, a theft from a motor vehicle, a bogus caller attempting entry
at a residence and a case of poor workmanship. The number and frequency of
road traffi c accidents on the Port Glasgow Road in the vicinity of the Quarry Site
was a cause of great concern. It was generally agreed that the excessive speed
of the vehicles, the layout of the road and the lack of road markings were the
contributing factors to the problem. The Inverclyde Roads Department will be
informed of these views and remedial actions sought.
Planning Applications: Nine planning applications were considered one of
which was for Planning Permission in Principle for residential development,
access, infrastructure, landscape/open space, and associated works on the land
at Carsemeadow, Quarriers Village. The Kilmacolm Community Council will
respond to the formal planning application, when submitted, for the proposed
development.
Roads: It was confi rmed that the work to provide a permanent solution to the
long standing fl ooding problems on Lochwinnoch Road in the vicinity of the Virgin
Media roadside cabinet would commence in October.
Village Centre Improvements: The Kilmacolm Community Council endorsed the
concerns of the community about the unsatisfactory quality of the plantings, the
garden maintenance, the wall toppings and state of the commemorative fountain
at the Kilmacolm Cross. Work on these had been undertaken as part of the
Inverclyde Council sponsored Village Centre Improvement initiative.
Council Vacancy: Frances Fulton was elected by an unanimous vote to fi ll the
vacancy on the Kilmacolm Community Council.
Cllr Andy Doig
Public Park: I have been working with the Howwood Public
Park Committee to put them in touch with the relevant council
offi cers to forward their plans for the public park, and these
developments are ongoing and I will report their outcomes in
due course, which I am sure will be positive for Howwood. Our
villages have a great many public spirited individuals and one of
these is the redoubtable Ms Patsy McAuslan Martin, who has
asked me to publicise her Tai Chi classes which are in the Boarding House on
the last Thursday of the month at 1pm, if readers are interested in de-stressing
themselves please contact the Boarding House for details.
Speeding: Residents have been very concerned over recent months in the
Troubridge Avenue area of Kilbarchan due cars speeding which increases the
risk of accidents, and this has been raised by residents at Kilbarchan Community
Council. Council offi cers have advised me that the current Twenty’s Plenty policy
is only advisory and not a statutory limit, however, the current Transport Bill which
is passing through Holyrood is considering giving Twenty’s Plenty statutory legal
backing.
War Memorial: Recently I have organised a meeting at the Lochwinnoch War
Memorial between myself, community activists, and council offi cers, to see
how we can improve the ambience of the area as a place of remembrance and
refl ection.
Trees: An Action Plan has been put in place which will potentially involve monies
from the new Community Empowerment Fund, and which will see the large
cherry trees removed due to decay, the shrubs being grassed over, new fl owers
being planted, and the refurbishment of the two benches. This is good news for
Lochwinnoch.
Surgeries: My advice surgery in Kilbarchan is on the 2nd Wednesday of the
month in the Steeple Hall at 7.30pm, and my advice surgery in Howwood is on
the 4th Wednesday of the month in Howwood Village Hall at 6.30pm, then at
Lochwinnoch also on the 4th Wednesday of the month in the McKillop at 7.30pm,
excluding July and Christmas. But I am also always available to constituents who
can call me on 07534 148224, tweet me on CllrAndy4Ward8, facebook me on
