MEDICATIONS THAT AFFECT DRIVING ABILITY
As you may already know, an estimated 80 percent of the population will
experience back pain at some point in their lives. While it is certainly best to
get a diagnosis and proper treatment for back pain that persists,
over-the-counter pain relievers can be used to manage recurring and
intermittent back pain. It is important to keep in mind, however, that pain
medication only treats the symptoms and improves function, and does not
address the underlying cause. Common categories of back-pain medication
include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), opioids, muscle
relaxants, and acetaminophen. NSAIDs are often preferred because they
help reduce pain, swelling, and inflammation in muscles and around
damaged spinal discs and arthritic joints. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) does not
address inflammation.
Compounded medications are prescribed by a physician and are
tailored for each individual patient’s needs. These medications are often
used for patients who are unable to take a prescription in its manufactured
form, such as turning a tablet into a liquid or a transdermal gel, or for
people who cannot swallow pills. To learn more, please call or visit
VILLAGE PHARMACY in the Colonial Shopping Center (781-334-3133).
We feature ComputerRX for online refills and Parata Pas packaging system
which allows us to customize the dispensing of your medications.
HINT: Individuals with peripheral neuropathy, peripheral artery disease,
dermatitis that involves oozing or fragile skin, conditions that reduce skin
sensation, or significant leg swelling should avoid using compression stockings.
