MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE
As I drive to school in the morning I am in awe at the beauty of the
sunrise, blossoms in the trees and God’s creation. It is then that
I realise with a deep feeling of gratitude how blessed we are as a
school to be surrounded by such pristine bushveld at Roodeplaat. It is my
prayer that you will have a wonderful fourth term full of wonderful surprises
and “blossoms” as we journey towards the end of the year.
Thank you to all our primary school staff, learners and parents who made our
Soap box day so much fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the day. The many smiling
faces and the feeling of joy radiating from our learners, teachers and parents
were highlights for me. The money raised through this initiative will go towards
the roof for our pavilion. The tennis/netball courts at the primary school were
renovated during the holidays and have a brand new look and I trust that
this will serve as motivation to our keen netball and tennis players. We also
celebrated heritage day in a unique way at the end of term three and we will
build on this in planning even bigger 2019 Heritage Day celebrations.
I would like to draw your attention to the following important meeting:
25 October 2018: Social media information session by Emma Sadleir –
expert on social media law (do not miss out on this
important session)
31 October 2018: The Curro Roodeplaat golf day had to be postponed to
would like to wish all our grade 12’s all of the best with their final exams.
I encourage all our learners to work hard during the next few weeks in order to
be well prepared for the final exams of 2018.
HIGH SCHOOL HAPPENINGS
At the start of Term 4, the final
term, we as individuals have a
range of expectations. We are
expecting a great harvest and rightly so,
we are looking to the heavens for rain.
But with faith in hand, we should start
working the land in this final preparation.
We have the matric learners who are
preparing for the conclusion of twelve
years of academic learning. The Grade
11 learners are preparing for a mark that
will allow them access to their chosen
field of study. The Grade 9 learners need
to get the marks that will enable them
to make the subject choices they want
to pursue. The Grade 8 and 10 learners
need to consolidate their academic
performance.
To enable our learners to start with their
preparation, they will receive an exam
information booklet stating when, what
on, where and how long they will be
assessed during the final examinations.
This booklet will enable every learner
to start preparing much earlier and not
the day before the exam starts. We
have rolled out an incentive for growth
in Mathematics and Science for the final
term. The top two learners, growth wise
in Grades 8 to 11 in the above-mentioned
subjects, will receive a substantial
reward.
Life is about balance and the pursuit
of excellence. No learner should just
study, therefore we are following a wellplanned
pre-season sports programme.
You would have received a document
detailing all the time slots and coaches
responsible for the different sporting
codes. Please help us in this academic
time to keep our learners active, because
it is academically counterproductive not
to do so.
I am glad to report that we have made
history with the matric farewell by
having the arrival parade at school.
Thank you to every role player who
was instrumental in making this a night
to remember. To Mrs Sanet van Wyk
and Ms Maryke Holtzhauzen, who took
ownership of this memorable occasion,
a special word of thanks. In the
aftermath of the pantomime, we have
great expectations, participation-wise,
for the upcoming Culture Week from 22
October. All of this will culminate in the
Culture Gala Evening. Please come and
celebrate that evening with us. The date is
mentioned in the important dates section
of this newsletter. During our Sports and
Cultural Merit Evenings in the past, it
was sad to see how many parents didn’t
attend. I would like to formally invite the
parents of every recipient to come and
celebrate the accolades that our learners
so richly deserve.
We are emotional when looking forward
to our Valediction and Grade 12 Final
Assembly, where we will say ‘Bon
Voyage’ to our seniors and wish them
God’s grace in the upcoming finals.
To conclude, I would like to say that the
time to make a difference is NOW.
Congratulations and thanks are in
order to all our learners and staff who
took part in the Curro Nationals during
the recent holidays. You have made us
proud on and off the fields. A special
mention goes to Boipelo Moloisane, who
received the accolade of being the u/15
hockey player of the tournament. Liam
Whitehead was announced as the man of
the match against WP during the recent
Iqhawe rugby week. Sammy Lee Nel
was announced as the B- division u/17
Gauteng North cross-country winner.
Well done to our indoor hockey girls who
recently finished their tournament and
to the netball girls for participating in the
Fast Five tournament.
THE PRIMARY SCENE
Welcome back after the October holiday. I trust that you and your family
rested well and are ready for the last term. The hourglass is quickly
running out on the 2018 school year.
Our annual soapbox derby was, once again, a mammoth success. Without the
support of you, our parents, it would have been impossible to reach the record
amount of R146 000. These funds will be used to improve our school premises and
facilities to the benefit of the learners. In due time all information regarding the “off
day” for grade R to grade 7 learners as well as the excursions will be communicated.
The grade 3 learners will start changing classes within their small circle of educators
to help them prepare for the Intersen phase. This brings along lots of excitement
amongst the learners!
Congratulations to our Top 5 academic learners in grade 4-7! Hard work and
dedication are rewarded.
All important dates for term 4 can be found in this newsletter under “Important
dates”. Please note that the exam starts on Monday, 19 November. You have
already received the timetable with your child’s report but you can also find a copy
in this newsletter. Further arrangements regarding the exam will be sent to you by
Friday, 2 November.
A friendly reminder about the re-registration forms that must be handed in at
reception if not yet done. Please feel free to discuss any concerns you might
experience in this regard with me.
Thank you for your positive support towards the school and all activities.
CURRO SEVENS NATIONALS
A few of Curro Roodeplaat’s learners
represented the Jacaranda region at
the Curro Sevens Nationals during the
September holidays. The Curro Sevens
Nationals were held at Curro Hillcrest in
Durban and the learners played in the
variety of sports, like Netball, Hockey,
Rugby and Soccer. The learners and some
of our teachers left early on Sunday, 23
September to attend the tournament. The
learners had to play matches against the
other regions during the week. The playoffs,
in which all teams of every sport had
to play matches to determine their position,
took place on Wednesday. The soccer’s
u.11A team and the netball’s u.13A team
won their final match and were crowned as
winners of the tournament. The netball’s
u.11A took home the bronze prize. The
hockey and rugby did also very well but
unfortunately didn’t place in the top three.
We are very proud of all the learners who
represented Curro Roodeplaat!
an exciting note by spoiling the learners
with a colour fest. The parents showed
us where the learners’ talents came from
when they took part in the parent race.
Thank you for being part of the athletic
spirit! Coaching has already started on
Monday, 15 October 2018 for the learners
