Lochwinnoch Primary School
This month has
been an extremely
busy month at
Lochwinnoch
Primary School.
We had our
Macmillan Coffee
Morning, which the
pupils and parents
contributed to by
baking lots of cakes
and goodies. The
afternoon itself was
packed with visitors
including some
special invited
guests from Mosswood Care Home. They enjoyed chatting to the children
and we raised a HUGE £649. 21. Well done everyone!
The Primary 7’s took part in the Tag n Track programme with Clyde Mursheil.
They learned how the rangers safely catch and tag different seagulls in
order to see their travel habits and flight paths. Some seagulls even flew
as far as Morocco or Portugal!
Primary 1, 2, 3, 6, 7/6 and 7 took part in a school litter pick as part of
Renfrewshire Councils “Clean Up” campaign. We used the litter pickers
and bin bags to rid our playground of litter as well as tidying up the side
streets next to the school, the car park and the front garden. It is now
looking much neater and tidier.
Primary 1 have been very busy learning all about Autumn for their topic.
They were lucky enough to have a volunteer who came in to help them build
their very own hedgehog houses. These are very important as they help
the local hedgehogs find cosy, dry places for hibernation in the winter.
Primary 7 House Captains attended their first Tea Dance of the year. They
enjoyed getting to meet new people and having a chance to dance with the
ladies and gentlemen. They also had to showcase their own talents and
create a short performance. The talents ranged from clarinet playing, to
singing, to a poetry recital and even to a magic show!
Chatterbox Champions
We were delighted to hear about the role the Advertizer played in the
development of an exciting new product which has just been launched by
Brookfield resident Elaine Kent.
Chatterbox Champions alphabet cards provide simple ideas for games,
rhymes, songs and activities to help encourage vocabulary development
and important pre-reading skills for 3-5 year olds. Elaine got in touch with
Kilmalcolm based graphic
designer Mark Hutton after
seeing an advert for his
company Hutton Creative in
the Advertizer. Mark’s talent
for design combined with
Elaine’s extensive experience
in primary and early years
education has resulted in a
beautifully illustrated product
which can be used by parents,
grandparents, childminders
or nurseries. For more information go to www.chatterboxchampions.com
St. Fillan’s Primary School
We held our first Fairtrade coffee morning of
the school year raising a grand total of £150
and we couldn’t be prouder of our efforts as
Fairtrade is an issue that is very close to our
hearts.
Our Primary 7 children enjoyed attending
a “Fun Run” which was organised by Gryffe
High School. Every child took part and we
were thrilled when Grace came back having
won first place in the girls section.
Four of our children recently organised a
“Crafty Kids” stationery stall where they sold a
range of pencils, rubbers, pencil toppers and
stickers to raise an amazing £60 for a nearby
horse charity. We are super proud of their
efforts. Great team work!
Our transition programme for our pre 5 children is underway and we were
delighted to welcome youngsters from our partner Nurseries Abbey and
Gryffe Manor along for a STEM (Sciences, Technologies, Engineering
and Mathematics) “Transition Taster” visit. Mrs Kaney, who is our STEM
curriculum champion, was thrilled with their enthusiasm and we are looking
forward to the children visiting over the next few months.
Three ‘green fingered’ Primary 7 boys helped Jake Fulton from Houston
Community Council in planting some pots in the village. The boys were
really pleased to be involved in helping Jake keep the area in tip top
condition.
As part of our ongoing consultation around the issues of Anti Bullying, the
whole school enjoyed a visit from Debbie and Kieran who are ambassadors
of the “I Am Me” Scotland Charity. They do great work in highlighting
awareness of the issues around bullying, disability and hate crime and each
class benefited from a session that was age and stage appropriate. We
look forward to another busy few months before the festive period begins!
