Over the years as a local Councillor it has been a privilege to
serve the people of Houston, Linwood, Crosslee, and Brookfi eld,
villages which all have a wealth of community minded individuals
in them. These are too many to name every month but I would
like to mention one of them, Mr Jake Fulton. Jake is the Leader
of the Houston Litter Crew which organise litterpicks every
Sunday morning, and they took part in the Spotless September
Challenge for Team Up to Clean Up, organised by Renfrewshire
Council. Once again Jake has shown his dedication to the
people of Houston so well done.
I have worked in the sports and leisure industry for nearly forty years. So it was
with great pride and passion that I witnessed the Scottish Womens Football
Squad qualify for the Womens World Cup in France next year. I put up a motion at
the last full council meeting congratulating the Womens Squad and wishing them
every success, I also called on the SFA to reward the success of the Womens
team and put more money into Womens football in Scotland. I am delighted that
all parties supported my motion.
My advice surgery in Brookfi eld is on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 6.30pm in
Brookfi eld Village Hall, and my advice surgery in Houston is on the 4th Thursday
of the month in the Carrick Centre, Houston, at 7.15pm, excluding July and
Christmas. But I am also always available to constituents who can call me on

Warm Clothes For
The Homeless
Warm clothes for the homeless, supported
by the Glasgow City Mission and the Simon
Community, is a key Home Mission appeal
at Houston & Killellan Kirk. We are seeking
donations of warm underwear, woolly hats,
scarves, gloves & socks to keep these
vulnerable men & women warm during the
winter months.
The Kirk’s Mission Team are confi dent
that those attending the Kirk Services
will respond generously by bringing their
donations on one of the following Sundays:
4th, 11th, 18th or 25th November.

Local Painter Comes to
the Rescue
Following a post on Facebook regarding the sad
state of the goalposts in Houston village park,
local resident and tradesman James Martin,
assisted by his
pal Alan, came to
the community’s
rescue. Together
they rubbed down,
undercoated and repainted the goalposts - and
what a difference it has made, as you can see
from the pictures here. Many thanks! And thank
you to Jake Fulton of Houston for the update and
photos.

Our French conversation groups are
still going strong. The age range
in the morning group is one year
up to 90 years! In the afternoon
group our oldest member is 95.
We meet in the Fox and Hounds
in Houston on Wednesdays
