There is active encouragement for people on
the Walking for Health Scheme to progress
to the Ramblers, once they feel they have
achieved sufficient levels of fitness
and confidence.
The Ramblers are a national organisation that
helps everyone, everywhere to enjoy walking
and protects the places we all love to walk. It
is the only charity dedicated to looking after
paths and green places, leading walks, and
opening up new places to explore and
encouraging everyone to get outside and
discover how walking boosts your health and
your happiness.
The Ramblers (Rochdale) Group are a very
friendly and engaging walking group that
offers an intermediate walk programme
throughout the year. The walks are graded
moderate, distances up to 7.5 miles and
3 - 4 hour duration.
For information on joining the Ramblers
go online visit www,ramblers.org.uk or
contact Richard Gibbons on 07889 466157
or by email at rl-gibbons@sky.com
or pick up at leaflet at your local library.
YOUR LOCAL GROUP
The Heywood Queens Park Walk and Talk Group meet at Queens Park Cafe for grade one and
two walks every Thursday morning, leaving at 10am (except public holidays). Not only is this
a great way to get fit and healthy but to meet and socialise with others. The walks are free, friendly
and everyone is welcome. We have walkers of all abilities from people just starting to enjoy an
accompanied walk to seasoned ramblers.
Recently three members of our Milnrow Walk and Talk Group completed the 256 Mile Pennine Way
Walk in aid of Cancer Research UK. An illustrated booklet of the journey is available
at Milnrow Library for a modest donation to Cancer Research.
