A Look Back On the Last Year
Rooley Moor Neighbourhood Forum
We had a great turn out at our AGM on
Thursday 25th October 2018 and we were
really pleased to see everyone.
The RMNF Trustees were delighted to
announce the appointment of three new
trustees:
Councillor Wendy Cocks
Philip Massey, and
Dr. Steve Davison
Wendy, Phil and Steve bring a tremendous
amount of expertise and knowledge to our
forum, which is very welcome.
Councillor Cecile Biant and Reverend Morley
Morgan were re-appointed as trustees. Morley
volunteered for the position of Vice Chair
and John Newcombe volunteered to be our
Treasurer.
Another ‘Catley Carols’ event will be arranged
in December, we’ll advise the date nearer the
time.
We agreed any income, after expenses, from
the 2019 RMNF Calendar will be used to
support the 2019 Catley Lane Head ‘In Bloom’
initiative. Please email: info@RMNF.org.uk if
you’d like a Calendar, they are £5 each
And finally, everyone at the meeting agreed it
would be a great idea to hold another forum
event, probably in August next year. We’ll
be sure to keep you informed as our plans
develop.
Looking back at last year
In December 2017 RMNF received £9,400
from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) towards
a ‘Shared Heritage’ project, Rochdale
Township Committee approve conservation
status for Catley Lane Head. We had our first
Catley Carols Christmas get together, we took
a car boot full of food and a cheque for £75
to Rochdale Foodbank, and there was a
community walk around Ogden reservoir,
checking out a trail for our own area.
In February 2018 we had a session at
Touchstones with Janet Byrne (Local
Studies Supervisor) who collated information
on Rooley Moor, Greenbooth and Healey Dell
to show us, and guide us through the process
of researching our particular areas of interest
for our HLF project. We tried and failed to stop
the removal of the bus service to Catley
Lane Head.
In April 2018 we met with Mid Pennines Arts,
publish our first Heritage Trail Leaflet and held
our Neighbourhood Plan Public Consultation
‘Drop In’ Event which we held at Spotland
Church.
In May 2018 RMNF members supported the
Whitworth Skyline Walk, which included the
Cotton Famine Road. GDPR was implemented
in readiness for the 25th May 2018 deadline,
and an Equestrian Rendezvous event was
held in Catley Lane Head, with horse riders
from Rossendale, Wardle, Bury, Bolton and
Rochdale descending on Catley Lane Head.
The event raised £155 for North West Air
Ambulance.
In June 2018 there was a meeting with the
Co-operative Heritage Trust to provide an
introduction to RMNF and project awareness.
An RMNF member identified and stopped
a proposal to tarmac the Rooley Moor Road
cobbles, 600m north, from Smallshaw Road
(2 listed items of 300m each). We provided a
Neighbourhood Plan community brief to advise
the RMNF trustees had reviewed all the
