DJ Colette has come a long way 

since her early years playing clubs 

in her native Chicago. She has 

broken records on iTunes, had a 

Billboard No. 1 single, performed 

around the world, her music was 

used in a Motorola commercial 

and she has been featured on the 

soundtrack of The Devil Wears 

Prada. The “First Lady of House” 

lives in Los Angeles now has a 

thing for punctuation. 

Modesty aside, how would you 

describe yourself? 

I always knew that I wanted to 

make music. When I was four I 

told my mom, I wanted to be a 

singer or a McDonald’s waitress. 

I started listening to house music 

when I was ten and at age sixteen 

decided that this was the kind of 

music I wanted to make. I began 

djing a few years later and haven’t 

looked back since. 

You’re a classically trained musician 

with a 20+ years successful 

career. Have the changes in the 

music industry affected you as 

well?

LA comic con happens every year just 

before Halloween, so it's a perfect place to 

give your costume some attention and even 

Bakugo, and Uraraka cosplay from the 

series. Another series I noticed that was 

quite popular was the Fate/Stay series. I 

saw many girls dressed in variants of Saber 

and even ran into one of my favorite heroic 

servants from the series, Caster Tomamo- 

No-Mae. Ofcourse I took a picture with 

her! (Please remember to ask a cosplayer 

for the consent of a photo). 

Yaoi Army Booth at LA Comic Con 

get your Halloween partying started a little 

early. This year, the event has expanded 

since last year and is still growing. To put it 

into perspective, the event this year was at 

the Los Angeles Convention center, and the 

cosplayers just took over the surrounding 

blocks with their presence as they walked 

by, or casually met up with friends. It's 

definitely something to witness, pretty 

much making it an early Halloween. 

A big part of the convention is cosplay, that 

is Dressing/role playing as some character 

in manga Japanese comics.

Dear North Americans, Neighbors to the 

south 

I am sorry! I hate that our government is 

using asylum seekers like political pawns. 

That we denigrate you with names I 

won't dignify here. Especially this close 

to Christmas, really, what the fuck is 

wrong with us? We will not stand for it, 

and we are using our election process to 

stop this madness. We all want security 

and progress, but never at the expense of 

others if at all possible. Diversity is how we 

invest in the future, by building hopes and 

dreams of a brighter future for all. Some 

will say there are bad people among you, 

but the truth is, bad people are everywhere. 

To think otherwise is foolish and will allow 

one to fall victim of a hate that will paint 

the rest of your life. Some even say our 

President represents money over people. 

But please trust that we will be cleaning 

house. Many that gave Trump all the rope 

he needed, hung all with it of us to be sure. 

His plan's are like a twelfth grader and he 

spoke it like a twelfth grader, Ironically the 

people that voted for him said he sounded 

like one of us? WTF. A "Joe six pack" kind 

of guy with no brains, just like his ardent 

followers. But in reality more like a low life 

wife beater in a wife beater shirt. He gets 

angry, he says this sucks and that sucks and 

you suck. And we call him the orange turd. 

But that's white entitlement taken to is 

destruction. We are not worried about 

anything. We are willing to take liberty to 

the brink. A real place where real people 

will suffer. 

"I want a wall", he says and he does not 

care that it works, but a symbol to the 

world, that we are in fear. Really just optics 

like the outrageous cost of deploying our 

military and using them on people in 

another country. This madness bravado 

fueled the Vietnam war. That gained 

nothing compared to 50,000 of our 

brothers and sisters dead and still debating 

agent orange. 

So compelled to give their children a better 

future, that they came to the border to beg 

and got gassed. The President apparently 

does not value people of color that is the 

point. An estimated 3,000 people died after 

the devastating Hurricane Maria ravaged 

Puerto Rico last year. Large swaths of the 

island were without power for months. We 

all watched in horror as a mayor begged for 

help, then was accused of Trump bashing. 

You don't call a nation in Africa a shit hole 

nation if you have respect for human life. 

You don't walk away from Russia and Saudi 

assassinations of their political leaders, 

then say "Well, there is a lot of money to be 

had". There is a price to pay for that and 

our children will be made to pay. 

In fact it all sucks. So he is not only lying 

about all of the nations to the south. He is 

lying about being a President. He is lying to 

us daily.

This is the thing, we all as individuals work 

so hard and love what we do and a big part 

of this is the investment. Drags queens are 

a big part of events and are a daily dose of 

what clubs need and we appreciate every 

single dollar given to us by anyone. We save 

up all this appreciation and continue to 

purchase what we need: wig, heels, makeup, 

costume, etc. the list goes on forever literally 

forever. 

When we walk into a venue and have all 

our personal stuff in there, we trust who's in 

there because we should never have to feel 

like we're not able to leave our belongings 

out. 

But when certain individuals feel the need 

to go into our belongings and feels the 

need to "accidentally" take our property, 

doesn't matter what it is. This is a safe place 

for us. No entertainer should ever have to 

feel insecure about leaving their jewelry, 

costumes, tips or anything out. That's why 

you have designated space for you and your 

stuff. 

This type of issue really bothers me because 

I have had this happen to me once and it's 

happened to some of my friends. These 

thieves really feel the need to rob us of what 

we work hard for. 

but when you are known, and everyone finds 

out what you do (stealing), you won't get any 

opportunities after. So, girls and boys, learn 

a lesson. Don't steal from hard workers. We 

work hard for what we have and it's not cool 

because now everyone will be pissed, and 

your career can be over as quick as it started. 

This goes out to everyone. It doesn't matter if 

you’re gay or straight. This happens to all of

DAVID HOCKNEY, GAY ARTIST, 

PRODUCED HIGHEST PRICE 

PAINTING SOLD OF ANY LIVING

Last week this article reviewed the most 

expensive art sold during the past year. 

Included in that work was a painting 

by David Hockney whose painting 

"Portrait Of An Artist" (two figures 

with a pool) sold for $90.3 million at 

Christies Auction House last month. 

The significance of this is that it is the 

highest price ever paid for an art work 

where the artists is still alive at 81, and 

living in Los Angeles. 

David Hockney is a multi-talented 

artist as a painter, photographer, 

printmaker, draughtsman, and has 

also been a stage designer. He was 

born in the U.K.in 1937. He attended 

the Bradford School of Art and the 

Royal Academy of Art during the late 

50's and early 60's Hockney was an 

individualist. He was part of a new 

Pop art group in Britain. His early 

works had similarity to some of Francis 

Bacon's work. He jeopardized his 

graduating from the Royal Academy of 

art by refusing to complete a drawing 

of a female model. He submitted a 

painting of a diploma instead. He also

refused to submit a required essay, 

saying that his graduation should 

be based on his art work. The Royal 

Academy recognized his talent and 

growing popularity and granted him a 

diploma, changing it's regulations for 

graduation. 

He moved to Los Angeles in the mid 

60's and also maintained a residence 

in the U.K. His work during the late 

60's included portraits of friends,lovers, 

and landscapes.His style has been 

representational or realistic but stylized 

in a very original manner. He also 

worked with photography initially 

creating photo collages made from 

polaroid prints and later changing to 35 

milimeter prints. 

After a few years of exploring 

photography he returned to painting. 

He still uses technology in his work 

using the brush phone and an Ipad 

to assist him in painting portraits, 

landcapes and still lifes. His largest 

painting is 15 by 40 foot, landscaape, 

titled "Bigger Trees Near Water". that 

was inspired by his property near 

Yorkshire England and shown in this 

article. His fascination with pools and 

figures are exemplified in his numerous 

paintings, one shown in this article, 


"Peter Getting Out Of Nick's Pool". He 

also demonstrated his gay sexuality in 

paintings such as the "Shower: also in 

this article. He is known as Britain's 

most popular artist and his shown at 

the Tate Gallery was the most popular 

show appearing at that gallery. 

David Hockney is a true example of a 

prolific gay artist who is still creating 

art at 81 years of age.

change for me has been how I play 

music. I used to carry a 40lb bag 

of records with me everywhere, 

now all my music fits on a USB. 

The other noticeable change has 

been the addition of social media. 

I think it’s fun that you get to see 

a little bit more into the lives of 

everyone, but I also miss the days 

when there were no phones at the 

party and everyone just showed up 

to dance. 

How is nightlife in West Hollywood 

/ Los Angeles different than 

Chicago? 

I think the biggest difference is 

that everything is much more 

spread out in LA. When I first 

moved here I noticed all the similarities 

between the two cities right 

away. I especially noticed it in the 

underground dance scene. I feel 

like the DJs (and dancers) in LA 

and Chicago share the same vibe 

and love of music. 

Tell me about your LGBTQ+ fans. 

I’m flying back right now from 

playing the wedding reception of 

my friends Jason and Chrispy. It 

was a perfect day and I was really 

honored that they asked me to 

play. They first started coming to 

my shows about 10 years ago, and 

have driven and flown to different 

cities where I’ve been on tour. They 

started out as fans, but quickly 

became friends. I don’t normally 

use the word fan, as I’ve been 

lucky to develop many friendships 

over the years with so many people 

that support my music. 

Biggest pet peeve? 

It’s stupid, but it drives me nuts 

that most people don’t care about 

the difference between your and 

you’re. Whenever I read all those 

dumb twitter beefs between other 

DJs, I always feel like the real winner 

is the one who correctly wrote,

The Veterans Health 

Administration this week 

announced a new pilot 

program with the advocacy 

group The Independence 

Fund which will reunite 

troops who experienced 

some of the toughest 

combat conditions in Iraq 

and Afghanistan for group 

therapy sessions, with 

the hopes of using those 

common bonds to better 

work through individual 

post-military struggles. 

Veterans SURVEY 

Dear Veteran, 

this survey is designed to identify high 

priority issues and unmet needs for 

veterans living, working, or going to school 

in Riverside County. Your participation 

in this survey will benefit veterans like 

yourself by helping Riverside County 

develop better support systems to help you 

access the services that you and your fellow 

veterans need and have the right to. 

The survey should take only about 10 

minutes to complete. We encourage you to 

answer all the questions, but you should 

feel free to skip any questions that may 

make you feel uncomfortable. 

The survey asks about your military 

experience, knowledge and use of veterans’ 

benefits, your health and access to 

health services, health risks, and overall 

well-being. We also ask you to provide 

information on your general characteristics 

that might help target assistance to specific 

individuals and groups.

to help identify Riverside County veterans’ 

unmet needs.
