AdamsArtExpose’ ART DAVID HOCKNEY, GAY ARTIST, PRODUCED HIGHEST PRICE PAINTING SOLD OF ANY LIVING ARTIST Last week this article reviewed the most expensive art sold during the past year. Included in that work was a painting by David Hockney whose painting "Portrait Of An Artist" (two figures with a pool) sold for $90.3 million at Christies Auction House last month. The significance of this is that it is the highest price ever paid for an art work where the artists is still alive at 81, and living in Los Angeles. David Hockney is a multi-talented artist as a painter, photographer, printmaker, draughtsman, and has also been a stage designer. He was born in the U.K.in 1937. He attended the Bradford School of Art and the Royal Academy of Art during the late 50's and early 60's Hockney was an individualist. He was part of a new Pop art group in Britain. His early works had similarity to some of Francis Bacon's work. He jeopardized his graduating from the Royal Academy of art by refusing to complete a drawing of a female model. He submitted a painting of a diploma instead. He also AdamsArtExpose’ refused to submit a required essay, saying that his graduation should be based on his art work. The Royal Academy recognized his talent and growing popularity and granted him a diploma, changing it's regulations for graduation. He moved to Los Angeles in the mid 60's and also maintained a residence in the U.K. His work during the late 60's included portraits of friends,lovers, and landscapes.His style has been representational or realistic but stylized in a very original manner. He also worked with photography initially creating photo collages made from polaroid prints and later changing to 35 milimeter prints. After a few years of exploring photography he returned to painting. He still uses technology in his work using the brush phone and an Ipad to assist him in painting portraits, landcapes and still lifes. His largest painting is 15 by 40 foot, landscaape, titled "Bigger Trees Near Water". that was inspired by his property near Yorkshire England and shown in this article.
