Bard High School Early College (BHSEC)<br />
Baltimore, a partnership between Bard College<br />
and the Baltimore City Public Schools in<br />
Baltimore, Maryland, invites applications for a fulltime<br />
faculty position in Chinese Language and<br />
Literature, beginning August <strong>2018</strong>. BHSEC<br />
Baltimore seeks candidates able to teach Chinese<br />
language at all levels, as well as content courses in<br />
Chinese culture and/or East Asian or world history.<br />
The Bard early colleges enable talented and highly<br />
motivated students to complete a high school<br />
diploma and an Associate of Arts degree from<br />
Bard College within four years of study. The<br />
academic program emphasizes small classes and a<br />
commitment to teaching a diverse student body.<br />
The successful applicant for this position must be<br />
committed to teaching classes at both the high<br />
school and college levels. In addition, candidates<br />
will be expected to participate fully in the life of the<br />
school, including student advising, club advising,<br />
and committee service. An M.A. in Chinese<br />
language and/or literature or related field and<br />
dedication to teaching are required. Candidates<br />
who will have a Ph.D. at the time of employment,<br />
or who are ABD, with high school and/or college<br />
teaching experience are preferred.<br />

The Department of Languages and Culture<br />
Studies at the University of North Carolina at<br />
Charlotte announces a position for a part-time<br />
instructor in Chinese beginning August <strong>2018</strong>. The<br />
successful candidate will typically teach lowerdivision<br />
levels of Chinese in each semester (Fall<br />
and Spring) to undergraduate students. The<br />
successful candidate must have native or nearnative<br />
proficiency in Chinese (Mandarin),<br />
proficiency in English, experience at the college<br />
level teaching Chinese as a foreign language,<br />
experience with communicative and standardsbased<br />
methodologies, and university teaching<br />
experience in integrating both standard and<br />
spoken Chinese into their teaching. A Master’s<br />
degree in Chinese or a related field (Teaching<br />
Chinese/English as a Foreign Language, Second<br />
Language Acquisition, Chinese Linguistics) is<br />
required; and a commitment to promoting<br />
diversity and working with underrepresented<br />
groups.<br />
