Milnrow Library Walk and Talk Group ARE YOU LOOKING TOWARDS A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE AS YOU START THE NEW YEAR? If so come and join us, The Milnrow Walk and Talk Group. We meet every Monday morning in Milnrow Library ready to start walking at 10am. There are always two walk levels which are tailored to suit all abilities. 1. A faster walk often taking in the hills and fields around Milnrow and Newhey for the fitter and more energetic walkers. 2. An easier, more sedate walk which suits those with a lower fitness level. This walk is one that is particularly suited to anyone who has difficulty climbing stiles and can be extended for a more strenuous walk. Setting off from the Library, cross Dale Street and proceed down Ladyhouse Lane, under the subway and bear right along the footpath towards Harbour Lane, turn left into Harbour Lane then at the junction cross the road into Cricket view and proceed into the Cricket Club car park. Bear right in the carpark and using the signed footpath walk round the pitch, past the clubhouse and tennis courts to exit the Cricket Club at the rear gate (onto Buckley Chase). Follow Buckley Chase to the right and continue along this road to the junction with Buckley Hill Lane. Turn left onto Buckley Hill Lane and continue past Whitfield Drive and Stannybrook Park before taking the footpath on the right past the rear of JD Sports towards Michael Faraday Ave. At this point cross the road and through the gateway to signed footpath, walking past the new houses on Jones Way and Wren Way until you reach the Rochdale Canal. 46 To advertise call 07976 289967 or 07974 434793 or email sales@streetwisemag.co.uk
At this point cross the canal using the swing bridge and turn to the right, continuing along the canal towpath under the road bridge (Rochdale Rd). Continue along the towpath to the next bridge at Bellfield Mill Lane, going under the bridge before leaving the canal using the footpath on the left and crossing over the bridge. Follow this road to the left for a very short distance before bearing right in front of Firgrove Business Park, and continuing onto the narrow footpath between two fenced properties, keeping the PDL building on your right. This path will bring you out onto the first of the Bellfield Playing fields. Cross this field at an angle to bring you out on the cinder track that is the continuation of Bellfield Lane. Walk left along this track to the access slope to the second set of Playing fields (on your right as you walk). Cross the field and exit through the gate onto a narrow track that meets Uncouth Rd. Cross Uncouth Rd onto Halliwell St passing behind Thistleyfields Residential complex and continue along Halliwell St (which narrows slightly before opening out again to a road with footpaths) to its junction with Bridge St. At the junction turn left continuing along Bridge St and Dale St to return to the Library. (approx distance 3.75 miles) If you wish to extend this walk this is the point to do so by continuing along the towpath to the next bridge at Clegg Hall Lane, leaving the canal here and crossing over the canal to walk through Clegg Hall Hamlet, turning right onto Branch Rd and walking up to wild house Lane, turning right onto Wildhouse Lane to return to the library via Kiln Lane and Dale St. (approx distance 5 miles) Gweneth Smith Walk Leader. OUR GROUP If you feel the urge to get out more often for a walk in the local countryside, then come along to our weekly Walk and Talk Group. Based at Milnrow Library, we meet every Monday (except bank holidays) from 9.30 am leaving out at 10am. It is free and friendly and led by Volunteer Walk Leaders.
